User Perceptions Of The Spatial Layout Of The Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Religious Institute
User Perception of the Library Spatial Planning of the Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Religion Institute
Introduction
Spatial planning in a library plays a crucial role in creating a comfortable atmosphere for visitors. A well-designed library space can enhance the learning experience, foster a sense of community, and promote academic success. However, a poorly planned library space can lead to discomfort, distraction, and decreased productivity. The Padangsidimpuan State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Library, located in Padangsidimpuan City, is no exception. This study aims to investigate the user perceptions of the library spatial planning at IAIN Padangsidimpuan, with a focus on identifying the extent of comfort and efficiency of the library space.
Background
The IAIN Padangsidimpuan Library is a vital resource for students, faculty, and staff, providing access to a vast collection of books, journals, and digital resources. However, the library's spatial planning has been a subject of concern for many users. The library's layout, furniture, and equipment have been criticized for being inadequate, leading to discomfort and distraction. This study seeks to understand the user perceptions of the library spatial planning, with a focus on identifying the shortcomings and areas for improvement.
Methodology
This study employed a descriptive research design, involving a population of 4,435 library members. A sample of 98 participants was selected using the Slovin formula and proportional stratified random sampling techniques. The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire, which was administered to the participants. The questionnaire assessed the participants' perceptions of the library spatial planning, including the comfort, efficiency, and overall satisfaction with the library space.
Results
The results of the study showed that the user's perception of the library spatial layout is still uncomfortable. Most library members stated that the buildings, rooms, furniture, and library equipment have significant shortcomings. The data revealed that 62.2% of library members consider supporting facilities, such as toilets, less clean and unkempt. In addition, almost half of the respondents, namely 43.9%, felt uneasy while inside the library because of the noise originating from outside.
Analysis
The conditions revealed in this study showed the need for serious attention from the library manager. Cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, especially toilets, must be a priority to create a clean and comfortable environment. Lack of cleanliness in supporting facilities can cause a decrease in user interest to come to the library. In addition, noise problems are a challenge that needs to be overcome. Sounds from outside can interfere with the concentration of visitors who want to learn or read. Therefore, library managers can consider making improvements to the acoustic design of the room or instill a solution to reduce the impact of noise from outside.
The Importance of Library Spatial Planning
The library is a place that should provide peace and comfort for its users. With a good spatial plan, the library can be a more productive place for learning, research, and exploration of knowledge. Therefore, listening to the user's voice and applying the necessary improvements is very important to improve the quality of library services. In this context, this research is not only data collection, but also as a first step to encourage positive changes in the IAIN Padangsidimpuan library. With the right improvement, it is hoped that this library can meet the expectations and needs of its users, while improving the image and function of the library as a center for information and learning.
Conclusion
Overall, the results of this study provide a clear picture of how the user's perception of the library spatial plan can affect their experience. Therefore, efforts to improve the comfort and quality of the environment in the library must be the main focus for managers, for the sake of creating a better experience for each user. By understanding the user perceptions of the library spatial planning, library managers can make informed decisions to improve the library space, ultimately enhancing the learning experience and promoting academic success.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
- Improve cleanliness and maintenance of facilities: Library managers should prioritize cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, especially toilets, to create a clean and comfortable environment.
- Reduce noise levels: Library managers can consider making improvements to the acoustic design of the room or instill a solution to reduce the impact of noise from outside.
- Conduct regular user surveys: Library managers should conduct regular user surveys to understand the user perceptions of the library spatial planning and identify areas for improvement.
- Involve users in the decision-making process: Library managers should involve users in the decision-making process to ensure that the library space meets the needs and expectations of its users.
By implementing these recommendations, library managers can create a more comfortable and productive library space, ultimately enhancing the learning experience and promoting academic success.
