The width of the nose base is interpreted as the distance between the two most lateral nose lobes, while the lower face height is measured from subnasal to gnathion. This study has the aim to find the relationship between the two parameters, which can contribute to the development of ideal measurements for the lower face height that matches the base width of the individual's nose. Research Methodology
This research is descriptive with an analytical approach, using cross-sectional design. The research sample consisted of 168 individuals aged between 17 and 25 years from the Chinese race in the city of Medan. The sampling method is carried out with multi-stage sampling which includes cluster sampling and purposive sampling. The research subjects were photographed in a natural head position (Natural Head Position/NHP) and subsequently, the photo was analyzed using software to measure the lower face height and width of the nose base.
Results
The results showed the average width of the nasal base with P-value 0,000 (p <0.05) and average lower face height with p-value 0.002 (p <0.05), which shows a significant difference. In addition, the Spearman correlation test shows a significant relationship between the width of the nose and lower face height in the Chinese race group in the city of Medan, with the value of P <0.05. The correlation coefficient value obtained is 0.430, which shows that the relationship is positive and has a moderate closeness. In other words, the greater the width of the nose, the greater the lower face.
