Introduction

Patient safety is a critical aspect of healthcare that has become a top priority for hospitals worldwide. Mitra Sejati Medan Hospital, a leading healthcare facility in Medan, Indonesia, has been actively working to improve patient safety in its inpatient rooms. However, despite the hospital's efforts, incidents such as near misses, non-occurrences, unexpected events, and potential injuries still occur. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of nurses with the implementation of patient safety in the inpatient room of Mitra Sejati RSU Medan.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at Mitra Sejati Medan Hospital from April 2021 to completion. The population consisted of 151 nurses working in the inpatient room, with a sample size of 59 participants. The participants were selected based on their availability and willingness to participate in the study.

The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire that assessed the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards patient safety. The questionnaire was designed to measure the nurses' understanding of patient safety procedures and policies, as well as their attitudes towards implementing patient safety protocols.

Results

The results of this study showed that 76.3% of nurses had good knowledge and 72.9% of nurses showed a good attitude related to patient safety. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between nurse knowledge (p = 0.021) and the attitude of the nurse (p = 0.013) with the implementation of patient safety in the inpatient room of Mitra Sejati RSU Medan.
