Akne Vulgaris, a common skin inflammatory condition, affects more than 90% of adolescents and persists in about half of the sufferers until adulthood. Inflammation plays a crucial role in Akne pathogenesis, both as a primary and secondary phenomenon due to infection by propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). The immune system has an anti-inflammatory mechanism that aims to reduce tissue damage and maintain balance in the body. One cytokine that has an important role in inflammatory regulations is Interleukin-10 (IL-10).

This study aims to analyze the relationship between serum IL-10 levels with the severity of the vulgaris acne in the subjects involved. This study is an observational analysis with a latitude cutting approach involving 33 subjects of patients with Akne Vulgaris and 31 healthy controls. Measurement of serum IL-10 levels is carried out in the two groups. The severity of the Akne Vulgaris is considered to use Lehmann's criteria. This research has also received approval from the Health Research Ethics Commission, Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra.

The results showed that the average IL-10 serum level according to the degree of vulgaris acne severity was as follows:
- Light degrees: 6.63 ± 1.94 pg/ml
- Medium degree: 4.89 ± 0.95 pg/ml
- Degree of weight: 4.38 ± 0.61 pg/ml
The P value obtained from the analysis is 0.001 (p <0.05), which shows a significant relationship between serum IL-10 levels with the severity of the Akne Vulgaris.
