The Perception Of Librarists On The Attitude Of The Services Of The Medan State Polytechnic Library (Polmed)
The Perception of Librarians on the Attitude of the Services of the Medan State Polytechnic Library (Polmed)
Introduction
The Medan State Polytechnic Library (Polmed) is a vital institution for students, providing access to a vast array of information and resources. However, the quality of service offered by the library is not solely dependent on the availability of resources, but also on the attitude and behavior of its employees. This study aims to explore the perception of librarians on the attitude of the services of Polmed, with a focus on various indicators that include honesty, fortitude, discipline, friendliness, softness, politeness, joy, intelligence, sympathetic attitudes, flexibility, wisdom, seriousness, sense of responsibility, desire to help, a sense of belonging to the library, and employee attitudes.
Methodology
This study employed a quantitative research method, with a population consisting of all Polmed students who are registered as active members of the library, totaling 6,821 people. A sample of 98 people was selected using proportionate stratified random sampling techniques, which divided samples based on certain strata. The results of the study provide valuable insights into the perception of librarians on the attitude of the services of Polmed.
Results
The results of the study show that users have a positive perception of the attitude of library employee services in Polmed. Indicators such as honesty in acting, fortitude, discipline, friendliness, softness, politeness, joy, intelligence, sympathetic attitude, flexibility, wisdom, seriousness, and sense of responsibility receive a good assessment from librarians. However, there are three indicators that receive negative perceptions, namely the attitude of helping, the sense of belonging to the library, and sincere attitude. About 74% of librarians consider the attitude of helping employees to be inappropriate, 56% of librarians feel that they lack a sense of belonging to the library, and 52% of librarians assess that the sincere attitude of employees is not in accordance with their expectations.
Discussion
The results of the study suggest that the attitude of library employees in the Medan State Polytechnic (Polmed) still needs improvement, especially in terms of attitude of help, a sense of belonging to the library, and sincere attitude. This is important because the attitudes and behavior of library employees not only affect the quality of service, but also have an impact on the experience of library users in using library services. The importance of good service in the library cannot be seen as trivial, considering that the library is the main source of information for students. Therefore, the development of the interpersonal skills of library employees, such as empathy, the desire to help, and a sense of ownership, is very necessary.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the perception of librarians on the attitude of the services of Polmed. The results suggest that the attitude of library employees in the Medan State Polytechnic (Polmed) still needs improvement, especially in terms of attitude of help, a sense of belonging to the library, and sincere attitude. It is hoped that this research can be a reference for Polmed library managers to make improvements and improve the quality of services, so that the perception of users can be more positive and satisfying.
