The Influence of Planting Media and the Percentage of Shade on the Growth and Production of Celery Plants (Apium Graveolens L.) in the Lowlands
Celery plants (Apium Graveolens L.) are known as vegetables that thrive in cold climates. However, in the lowlands that tend to be warmer, the use of shade becomes important to support its growth. This study aims to evaluate the effect of growing media and the percentage of shade on the growth and production of celery plants. The study was conducted on the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra (USU) from July to November 2020, used a randomized factorial group with two treatment factors. The first factor is a planting media consisting of three compositions: top soil, top soil + cow manure (2: 1), and top soil + rice husk charcoal (2: 1). The second factor is the percentage of shade which is divided into four levels, namely without shade, shade 25%, shade 50%, and a shade 75%.
