Introduction
Dental and oral health is an essential aspect of overall health, and it is crucial for individuals to understand and apply good oral hygiene practices. However, based on existing data, there has been a significant decline in the number of patient visits at the Puskesmas in ten B, Tanjung Morawa District. In 2011, 165 patients visited, but the figure declined to 125 patients in 2012, which is far from the national target set by 4% of the population. This study aims to analyze how patient knowledge and attitudes affect the re-utilization of services in the dental and mouth polys of the Puskesmas in ten B.
Methodology
This study employed an explanatory survey research design, conducted from April to July 2013. The population studied consisted of 125 patients who have used services in Poly and Oral Puskesmas, with a sample of 95 people. Data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire and analyzed with multiple logistics regression at the level of significance α = 0.05.
Results
The results of this study showed that the patient's knowledge of dental disease, dental examination, and dental maintenance as well as patient attitudes related to toothache, disease prevention, and health center services had a positive and significant influence on the use of services in dental and oral poly. Among the existing factors, knowledge about dental examination is the most dominant, with a coefficient (β) value of 2,288. This indicates that the higher the patient's knowledge of dental examination, the more likely they are to return to using the service.
Discussion
The findings of this study suggest that patient knowledge and attitudes play a crucial role in the re-utilization of dental and oral poly services. The results indicate that patients who have a better understanding of dental examination and maintenance are more likely to return to using the service. This highlights the importance of educating patients about the importance of maintaining oral health.
Recommendations
Based on the results of this study, several strategic steps can be taken by the Deli Serdang District Health Office and Puskesmas Dalu Ten B to increase the use of services in dental and oral poly. Firstly, they need to actively educate the public about the importance of maintaining oral health by conducting socialization through radio, brochures, and banners. Secondly, it is essential to increase participation in providing counseling regarding dental care, so that people do not feel worried when receiving treatment.
