The Influence Of Lighting On Worker Productivity In The Sorting Unit Of The Rubber Industry Factory Gloves
Introduction
The rubber industry factory gloves play a crucial role in the production of high-quality rubber gloves. However, the working conditions in the sorting unit of the factory can significantly impact the productivity of the workers. One of the key factors that can affect worker productivity is lighting. Adequate lighting is essential for workers to perform their duties efficiently and effectively. In this study, we investigated the effect of lighting on worker productivity in the sorting unit of the rubber industry factory gloves.
Background
The rubber industry factory gloves is a major player in the production of rubber gloves. The factory has a sorting unit where workers sort and package the gloves for distribution. The working conditions in the sorting unit can significantly impact the productivity of the workers. Lighting is one of the key factors that can affect worker productivity. Adequate lighting is essential for workers to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.
Methodology
This study was conducted in the sorting unit of the rubber industry factory gloves in Medan. The study involved 32 female workers as subjects. The method of taking purposive sampling was used to select the subjects. The experimental pretest-posttest design was used to determine the relationship between lighting and productivity. The variance analysis was used to analyze the data.
Results
The results of the analysis showed that with an increase in the intensity of lighting from 98 Lux to 450 Lux, there was an increase in productivity by 19.17%. This study also found a significant influence between lighting and productivity, where maximum productivity was achieved at the lighting level of 450 Lux. Furthermore, the analysis using the Pearson correlation shows a significant positive relationship (p <0.05) between lighting and productivity levels.
Discussion
Adequate lighting in the work environment, especially in industries such as rubber gloves, has a big influence on the performance and health of workers. When lighting is low, workers often feel tired quickly, difficulty in seeing job details, and increasing the likelihood of errors. With increasing lighting, workers can be more focused and efficient in carrying out their duties.
An increase in productivity of 19.17% found in this study shows that simple improvements in the work environment such as lighting can produce a significant impact on output. This shows that investment in a good lighting system is not only beneficial for workers but also for companies in terms of increasing productivity and efficiency.
In addition, increased productivity also has a positive impact on the company's income. With substantial sales added value per worker, it is clear that the improvement of the work environment with better lighting can be a long-term strategy that is profitable for the company. This underlines the importance of occupational health and safety policies which include lighting aspects, which not only focus on physical factors but also to the mental well-being of workers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study found that adequate lighting in the work environment can significantly impact worker productivity. The results of the analysis showed that with an increase in the intensity of lighting from 98 Lux to 450 Lux, there was an increase in productivity by 19.17%. This study also found a significant influence between lighting and productivity, where maximum productivity was achieved at the lighting level of 450 Lux. Therefore, companies in the industrial sector are advised to conduct routine evaluations of lighting conditions at work. By applying recommendations to increase lighting at least 100 LUX, companies can encourage higher productivity, reduce the risk of accidents, and create a more comfortable work environment for workers.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
- Companies in the industrial sector should conduct routine evaluations of lighting conditions at work.
- The lighting level in the work environment should be increased to at least 100 LUX.
- The use of good lighting systems can produce a significant impact on output.
- Investment in a good lighting system is not only beneficial for workers but also for companies in terms of increasing productivity and efficiency.
- Occupational health and safety policies should include lighting aspects, which not only focus on physical factors but also to the mental well-being of workers.
Limitations
This study has some limitations. The study was conducted in a single factory and the sample size was limited to 32 female workers. Therefore, the results of the study may not be generalizable to other factories or industries. Future studies should be conducted to investigate the effect of lighting on worker productivity in other factories and industries.
Future Research Directions
Future research should be conducted to investigate the effect of lighting on worker productivity in other factories and industries. The study should also investigate the impact of other factors such as temperature, humidity, and noise on worker productivity. Additionally, the study should investigate the impact of lighting on worker health and well-being.
