Introduction
In today's fast-paced work environment, job satisfaction is a crucial indicator that measures an employee's attitude, feeling, or assessment of work and its relationship with their work environment. Various factors such as the type of work, compensation, and social interaction with colleagues significantly influence the level of job satisfaction. However, two main factors often contribute to reduced job satisfaction: burnout and work environment. This study aims to analyze the effects of burnout and work environment partially and simultaneously on employee job satisfaction in the Engineering and Processing Section of PTPN IV Medan.
Research Methodology
This study employed a quantitative approach with associative methods. The population studied consisted of all employees in the Engineering and Processing Section of PTPN IV Medan, totaling 79 people. The sampling technique used was saturation, where all members of the population were used as research subjects. Primary data were obtained through the distribution of questionnaires directly to employees, while secondary data were collected through literature studies. The analysis methods used included validity tests, reliability tests, classical assumptions tests, multiple linear regression, partial tests, simultaneous tests, and determination tests, all of which were carried out using SPSS software.
Research Findings
The results showed that the burnout variable had no significant effect on job satisfaction. This can be seen from the T-count value of 0.357, which is smaller than 1,991, with a significance value of 0.722, which is greater than 0.05. Nevertheless, the burnout variable shows a positive regression coefficient of 0.045, indicating that there is a positive tendency, although not significant.
Conversely, the work environment was proven to have a significant positive influence on employee job satisfaction. The T-count for this variable is 8,494, which is far greater than 1,991, with a significance value of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. The positive regression coefficient of 0.779 shows that a good work environment can increase employee job satisfaction substantially.
In simultaneous testing, both the burnout variable and the work environment have a common influence on job satisfaction with an influence level of 47.7%. The remaining 52.3% of job satisfaction is influenced by other factors that are not included in this study.
Analysis and Explanation
From these findings, we can conclude that the work environment has a more significant impact on job satisfaction compared to burnout. This may be caused by the fact that a positive work environment, which includes social support, good work facilities, and open communication, can create an atmosphere that is more supportive for employees. Conversely, although burnout can affect emotions and performance, in the context of this study, the impact is not strong enough to reduce job satisfaction significantly.
In addition, 52.3% of variations in job satisfaction that are not explained by burnout and the work environment show that there are many other factors that contribute to job satisfaction, such as appreciation, career development, and a balance of work life that may need to be further investigated.
