The Effect of Workload on the Effectiveness of Nurses in the Inpatient Installation of Dr. Pirngadi Medan: A Study of 2007
Introduction
The hospital is one of the most critical health facilities that play a vital role in providing quality health services to the community. As an institution that provides complex services, managing human resources, especially nurses, becomes a top priority. The role of nurses in providing quality nursing services is crucial, and their effectiveness is directly linked to the workload they manage. This study aims to analyze the effect of workload on the effectiveness of nurses in the Inpatient Installation (Bangsal) Dr. Pirngadi Medan in 2007.
Background
The hospital is a complex institution that requires a high level of human resources management, especially nurses. Nurses play a vital role in providing quality nursing services, and their effectiveness is directly linked to the workload they manage. The workload of nurses can be influenced by various factors, including work time, quantity of main activities, workload standards, and mitigation standards. Understanding the effect of workload on the effectiveness of nurses is essential to ensure that nurses can provide quality and optimal nursing services to patients.
Methodology
This quantitative descriptive research aims to analyze the effect of workload on the effectiveness of nurses in the Inpatient Installation (Bangsal) Dr. Pirngadi Medan in 2007. The population of this study was all nurses with the status of Civil Servants (PNS) who served in the Inpatient Installation (Bangsal) Dr. Pirngadi Medan, totaling 80 people. The research sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed using multiple linear regression methods and F-Count tests.
Results
The results of this study showed that the working time (p-value = 0.001 <0.05) and the quantity of the main activity (p-value = 0.003 <0.05) had a positive and significant effect on the effectiveness of the nurse's work. Meanwhile, the workload standard (p-value = 0.196> 0.05) and mitigation standard (p-value = 0.156 <0.05) has a positive but insignificant influence. Statistically, there is a significant influence (p-value = 0.00000 <0.05) between workloads consisting of work time, workload standards, mitigation standards, and main activity standards for the effectiveness of nurses' work in Dr. Pirngadi Medan.
Discussion
This study states that the workload has an influence on the effectiveness of nurses' work in inpatient installations. Workload Based on work time and the main activity standards have been effective and in accordance with the standards and guidelines for implementing nursing services. However, mitigation standards and workloads have not been effective and are not in accordance with the standards and guidelines for implementing nursing services set by the Nursing Department of RSU Dr. Pirngadi Medan.
Further Analysis
*** Effect of Work Time: ** Research shows that longer work time has a positive and significant influence on the effectiveness of nurses' work. This may be because nurses with longer work time have more opportunities to learn and develop, so they can complete tasks more effectively.
*** The Effect of the Quantity of Main Activities: ** The results of the study show that the quantity of the main activity that has more positive and significant influence on the effectiveness of nurses' work. This is probably because the more main activities are carried out, the more experience and skills obtained by nurses, so they can work more efficiently.
*** The Effect of Workload Standards and Mitigation Standards: ** Although it has a positive influence, workload standards and mitigation standards are not significant on the effectiveness of nurses' work. This shows that the standards set are not fully effective and need to be reviewed to ensure that the nurse's workload is in accordance with their abilities and does not inhibit the effectiveness of their work.
Implications for Nursing Practices
*** Workload Adjustment: ** It is necessary to adjust the workload of the nurse to be in accordance with the standards and guidelines for implementing nursing services set by the Department of Nursing RSU Dr. Pirngadi Medan.
*** Improved Job Description: ** Nurse job description in each inpatient ward needs to be clarified and refined to be more specific and measurable.
*** Training and Development of Nurses: ** Periodic training and development need to be carried out to improve the skills and knowledge of nurses in dealing with increasingly complex workloads.
Conclusion
This study concludes that the workload has an influence on the effectiveness of nurses' work in inpatient installations.
Recommendations
This study recommends that the description of the nurse's job in each inpatient ward must be clear and in accordance with the standards and guidelines for implementing nursing services set by the Nursing Department of RSU Dr. Pirngadi Medan. This is important to ensure that nurses have a balanced and effective workload, so they can provide quality and optimal nursing services to patients.
