One crucial aspect that often gets overlooked is occupational health and safety (OHS). The relationship between OHS and employee performance is complex, and understanding this connection is essential for organizations to create a safer, healthier, and more productive work environment. This study aims to investigate the effect of OHS on employee performance at PT. Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) Medan Unit, with motivation as an intervening variable.

Background

Occupational health and safety is a critical aspect of any organization, as it directly affects employee well-being and productivity. A safe and healthy work environment not only reduces the risk of work-related injuries and illnesses but also boosts employee morale, motivation, and performance. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of OHS in the workplace, and many organizations have implemented various initiatives to promote a culture of safety and health.

The Importance of Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational health and safety is not just a moral obligation, but also a legal requirement for organizations. In Indonesia, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (No. 1 of 2003) requires employers to provide a safe and healthy work environment for their employees. However, the implementation of OHS policies and procedures can be challenging, especially in industries with high-risk operations.

By doing so, the company can achieve its business goals more effectively and improve the overall well-being of its employees.

Limitations

This study has several limitations that should be acknowledged. Firstly, the study was conducted at a single site, and the results may not be generalizable to other organizations. Secondly, the study relied on self-reported data from employees, which may be subject to biases and errors. Finally, the study did not control for other factors that may influence employee performance, such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

Future Research Directions

Future research should aim to replicate this study in other organizations and industries to validate the findings. Additionally, researchers should investigate the impact of OHS on employee performance in different cultural and economic contexts. Furthermore, studies should explore the role of leadership and management in promoting a culture of safety and health in the workplace.
