The Effect of Giving N-Fix and ZPT Ergostim on Vegetative Growth of Palm Oil Seeds in the Main Nurseries

Introduction

Palm oil is one of the most widely used edible oils in the world, and its production is a significant contributor to the economy of many countries, particularly in Southeast Asia. The growth and development of palm oil seeds are crucial for the success of palm oil production. Nutritional management plays a vital role in the growth and development of palm oil seeds. This study aims to investigate the effect of giving N-Fix and ZPT Ergostim on the vegetative growth of palm oil seeds in the main nurseries.

Background

Research has shown that nutritional management is essential for the growth and development of palm oil seeds. N-Fix and ZPT Ergostim are two types of fertilizers that are commonly used in palm oil production. N-Fix is a nitrogen-fixing fertilizer that helps to increase the availability of nitrogen in the soil, while ZPT Ergostim is a plant growth regulator that helps to promote healthy growth and development of palm oil seeds. However, the effect of giving N-Fix and ZPT Ergostim on the vegetative growth of palm oil seeds is not well understood.

Methodology

This study was conducted in the Department of Agriculture of Food Crops and Horticulture Dati 1, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The study began in November 1999 and ended in February 2000. The design used in this study was a random design group (RAK) with 3 replications, consisting of two treatment factors. The N-Fix treatment factors were divided into four levels: NO (0 cc/1 water), N1 (7 cc/1 water), N2 (14 cc/1 water), and N3 (21 cc/1 water). Meanwhile, the administration of Ergosttim ZPT concentrations consisted of three levels: E0 (0 cc/1 water), E1 (1.5 cc/1 water), and E3 (3.0 cc/1 water). The parameters measured in this study included plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), number of leaves (strands), total leaf area (cm²), and plant wet weight (g).

Research Results and Analysis

The results of this study showed that the administration of N-Fix had a significant effect on the high growth of oil palm seedlings at the age of 16 weeks in the main nursery. From the measurements made, it appears that seedlings with N3 treatment have the highest height, while NO treatment shows the lowest height. This illustrates that a higher N-fix dose can significantly increase vegetative palm oil seed growth.

Likewise with the diameter of the stem, research shows a real effect that is in line with high measurement results. The highest stem diameter is also recorded in the N3 and lowest treatment in treatment NO after 16 weeks. This shows that the addition of nitrogen through N-Fix not only affects the height of the plant but also affects the thickness of the stem, which is very important for the stability and durability of oil palm plants.

In the aspects of the wet weight of the seeds, the results show that the N3 treatment produces the highest wet weight, reflecting the ability of the seeds to absorb water and nutrients that affect growth. The higher nitrogen availability allows seeds to perform photosynthesis more effectively, which in turn increases plant mass.

However, the N-Fix treatment does not have a significant effect on the number of leaves and total leaf area at the ages of 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks. This shows that although nitrogen has an important role in vegetative growth, other factors may also contribute to the optimal development of the number and area of leaf.

Conclusion

This study confirms the importance of nutritional management through the administration of N-Fixes and ZPT Ergostim in increasing the vegetative growth of oil palm seeds. A higher nitrogen dose, especially in N3, is proven effective in increasing the height of the seeds, stem diameter, and wet weight. Although it has no significant effect on the number and area of leaves, this study provides valuable insights for farmers and researchers in the effort to develop more productive palm oil breeding. The use of appropriate agricultural techniques and understanding of fertilizer treatment will have a positive impact on the success of planting oil palm in the future.
