The Effect of Giving Green Giant Organic Fertilizer and Super Bionic Leaf Fertilizer on Growth and Production of Corn Plants (Zea mays L.)
Introduction
Sustainable agriculture is a crucial aspect of modern farming practices, focusing on effective and environmentally friendly methods to improve agricultural products. One of the key components of sustainable agriculture is the use of fertilizers, which play a vital role in promoting plant growth and increasing crop yields. In this context, the study of the effect of giving Green Giant organic fertilizer and Super Bionic leaf fertilizer on the growth and production of corn plants (Zea mays L.) is of significant interest. Conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra between July and October 2006, this study aimed to investigate the impact of these two types of fertilizers on corn plant growth and production.
Background
The use of fertilizers in agriculture has been a long-standing practice, with the primary goal of providing essential nutrients to plants to promote growth and increase crop yields. However, the type and quality of fertilizers used can have a significant impact on plant growth and production. Organic fertilizers, such as Green Giant, are gaining popularity due to their environmentally friendly nature and potential to improve soil health. On the other hand, Super Bionic leaf fertilizer is a synthetic fertilizer that is designed to provide a quick boost to plant growth. The question remains, however, whether these two types of fertilizers are effective in promoting corn plant growth and production.
Methodology
This study employed a random block design, with two treatments: Green Giant organic fertilizer and Super Bionic leaf fertilizer. Each treatment was applied at different levels, with Green Giant fertilizer being given in four levels (GO, G1, G2, and G3) and Super Bionic fertilizer being applied in four levels (S0, S1, S2, and S3). The results of this study showed that Green Giant fertilizer had a significant positive effect on some parameters of corn plant growth, including leaf width, cob length, cob diameter, and tuna and corn seed weight. In contrast, the administration of Super Bionic fertilizer showed a negative effect on all measured parameters.
Analysis of the Effectiveness of Green Giant Fertilizer
Green Giant fertilizer, as an organic fertilizer, is able to increase the growth of corn plants by providing essential nutrients needed by plants. The significant increase in leaf width and cob length shows that this fertilizer can increase photosynthesis, which has a direct impact on increasing crops. Better leaf quality supports the efficient process of photosynthesis, producing sufficient energy for plant growth. This is a crucial aspect of sustainable agriculture, as it promotes plant growth while minimizing the use of synthetic fertilizers.
Negative Impact of Super Bionic Fertilizer
On the other hand, Super Bionic fertilizer, which should provide additional nutrition, actually shows the opposite results. Decreased all growth parameters can be caused by several factors, including the possibility of too high concentrations that can cause stress in plants. Leaf fertilizer, although it contains important nutrients, must be used wisely to prevent unwanted side effects. This highlights the importance of careful selection and application of fertilizers to avoid negative impacts on plant growth and production.
Interaction between Fertilizers
The results also showed that the interaction between the two types of fertilizer did not have a significant effect on the growth parameters of corn plants. This shows that although both fertilizers have different characteristics, the combination of its use does not have the expected synergistic impact. This is an important finding, as it suggests that the use of both fertilizers may not be beneficial in promoting corn plant growth and production.
Conclusion
From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of Green Giant organic fertilizer is more effective in increasing the growth and production of corn plants compared to Super Bionic leaf fertilizer. Farmers are advised to consider the type of fertilizer used and pay attention to the right dosage in order to achieve optimal agricultural products. This study provides important insights for farmers and researchers to explore further about the use of sustainable fertilizer and environmentally friendly in agriculture.

Limitations
This study has several limitations, including:
- Small Sample Size: The sample size of this study is relatively small, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
- Limited Treatment Levels: The study only considered two types of fertilizers and four levels of treatment, which may not be representative of all possible scenarios.
- Lack of Control Group: The study did not include a control group, which may have affected the results.
Future Directions
Future studies should aim to address the limitations of this study by:
- Increasing Sample Size: Increasing the sample size to improve the generalizability of the findings.
- Considering More Treatment Levels: Considering more treatment levels to explore the effects of different fertilizers and dosages.
- Including a Control Group: Including a control group to provide a baseline for comparison.
By addressing these limitations and exploring further research directions, this study can provide valuable insights for farmers and researchers to promote sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly practices in agriculture.
