The Behavior of the Athlete: The Technical Implementing Unit of the Sport of Sports in North Sumatra Province in Maintaining the Feet Hygiene Against the Tinea Pedis Incident in 2020

Introduction

Tinea pedis, also known as athlete's foot, is a fungal infection that affects the skin of the feet. This condition is often triggered by dermatophyte fungus that thrives in a moist and warm environment, such as in closed shoes. Athletes, especially those who routinely practice using sports shoes, have a high risk of getting tinea pedis due to sweat, trauma to the skin of the feet, and the use of sports shoes for a long time. This condition is exacerbated by the dormitory environment that allows the spread of mold easily.

Background of the Study

The study aims to determine the description of the behavior of athletes in the technical implementing unit of the North Sumatra Province sports bulls in maintaining foot hygiene, specifically related to the incidence of tinea pedis in 2020. This study used an analytical descriptive method with latitude cutting. A total of 52 athletes out of a total of 107 athletes in the Sports Deutuity Technical Unit of North Sumatra Province was randomly chosen as a research sample. Data was collected through a questionnaire containing questions about the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of athletes related to foot hygiene in preventing tinea pedis.

Methodology

The data were then analyzed using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions program. The results showed that the majority of athletes (82.6%) had good leg hygiene behavior. A total of 41 athletes (78.8%) have good knowledge about Tinea Pedis and how to prevent it. A positive attitude towards foot hygiene was shown by 38 athletes (73%), while tinea pedis preventive measures were carried out well by 49 athletes (94.2%).

Results

The results of this study indicate that the athletes in the technical implementation unit of the North Sumatra Province sports agile have a high awareness of the importance of maintaining leg cleanliness to prevent tinea pedis. Nevertheless, there needs to be an effort to increase the knowledge and attitudes of athletes, especially those who have knowledge and attitudes that are still lacking.

Discussion

The study suggests that the athletes in the technical implementing unit of the North Sumatra Province sports agile have a good understanding of the importance of maintaining leg cleanliness to prevent tinea pedis. However, there is still a need to increase the knowledge and attitudes of athletes, especially those who have knowledge and attitudes that are still lacking. The study also suggests that the provision of facilities, such as footwashers, antiseptic soaps, and clean towels, is necessary to support the cleanliness of athletes' feet.

Conclusion

Increasing awareness and practice cleanliness of the athletes is very important to prevent the spread of tinea pedis and maintain the health of the athletes as a whole. With a directed and ongoing effort, it is hoped that Tinea Pedis events in athletes can be reduced and do not hamper their achievements.

Recommendations

Socialization and Education: Educational programs about Tinea Pedis and how to prevent it need to be done routinely and involve all athletes. Education can be done through seminars, training, dissemination of education material, or even through digital platforms.

Provision of Facilities: The manager of the Sports Concrete Unit of North Sumatra Province is necessary to provide facilities that support the cleanliness of athletes' feet, such as footwashers, antiseptic soaps, and clean towels.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Periodic monitoring and evaluation of athlete's leg hygiene behavior needs to be done to ensure the effectiveness of educational programs and the use of available facilities.

Cooperation with Medical Personnel: Cooperation with medical personnel, such as a dermatologist, can be done to provide education and early treatment of tinea pedis cases.

Future Research Directions:

  • Conducting a longitudinal study to monitor the effectiveness of the recommendations made in this study.
  • Conducting a study to identify the factors that contribute to the spread of tinea pedis in athletes.
  • Conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of different educational programs in preventing tinea pedis.

Limitations of the Study:

  • The study was conducted in a specific population of athletes in the technical implementing unit of the North Sumatra Province sports agile.
  • The study was limited to the analysis of the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of athletes related to foot hygiene in preventing tinea pedis.

Implications of the Study:

  • The study suggests that the athletes in the technical implementing unit of the North Sumatra Province sports agile have a good understanding of the importance of maintaining leg cleanliness to prevent tinea pedis.
  • The study suggests that the provision of facilities, such as footwashers, antiseptic soaps, and clean towels, is necessary to support the cleanliness of athletes' feet.
  • The study suggests that increasing awareness and practice cleanliness of the athletes is very important to prevent the spread of tinea pedis and maintain the health of the athletes as a whole.
