Understanding the Role of Bank Indonesia: A Case Study of USU Faculty of Economics Students
Introduction
The role of Bank Indonesia in maintaining national economic stability is crucial, especially in the context of the country's economic development. As the central bank of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia plays a vital role in implementing monetary policy, managing the banking system, and supervising banks. However, the level of understanding of Bank Indonesia's duties and functions among students, particularly those from the Faculty of Economics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), is a topic of interest.
This study aims to explore the level of understanding of USU Faculty of Economics students regarding the duties and functions of Bank Indonesia after the enactment of Law Number 23 of 1999. The study employed a descriptive analysis method to collect, analyze, and interpret data from a sample of 97 students from six departments at the USU Faculty of Economics.
Methodology
The study used a Likert scale questionnaire to collect data from the sample of students. The questionnaire consisted of questions related to the duties and functions of Bank Indonesia, as well as the students' level of understanding of these concepts. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the level of understanding of the students.
Results
The results of the analysis showed that the majority of USU Faculty of Economics students understood the duties and functions of Bank Indonesia after the enactment of Law No. 23 of 1999. However, the analysis also revealed that undergraduate program students (S1) better understood the role of Bank Indonesia than Diploma Program students.
Deeper Analysis
Several factors can explain the difference in understanding between S1 and D3 students. S1 students tend to receive more in-depth material about Bank Indonesia in Monetary or Banking Economics courses. They may also be more active in participating in discussions and seminars related to monetary and banking policies, which provides them with a broader understanding of the role of Bank Indonesia.
