Introduction
The Deli Serdang Regency Farmers Sub-watershed is a region in North Sumatra, Indonesia, known for its rich agricultural land and diverse ecosystem. However, the increasing demand for agricultural products has led to the expansion of plantation crops, such as oil palm, durian, and rubber, which can have a significant impact on the soil chemical characteristics. This study aims to reveal the chemical characteristics of the soil below various types of stands in the Deli Serdang Regency Farmers Sub-watershed.
Methodology
This study was conducted in Lubuk Awar Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang, with soil sampling carried out from March to October 2015. The study used descriptive methods with field observation, and sampling was carried out using purposive sampling. The measured parameters included pH, organic C soil, soil cation exchange capacity, total N soil, and P and K available. Data was analyzed using the T test at the 5% level.
Results
The results showed that organic C parameters, total N, P available, K exchanges, and soil CBC had a significant decrease below the stands of oil palm, durian, and rubber compared to the soil under the forest stand. The highest decrease in soil chemical characteristics occurs below rubber stands, with an average soil organic C value of 1.10% and the average K exchange value is 0.166 cmol/kg. Meanwhile, the lowest decrease in soil chemical characteristics occurs below durian stands.
