Social Behavior Disturbing Street Vendors During the Covid-19 Pandemic Period in Pasar Merah Barat Village, Medan Kota District
Introduction
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on various sectors in Indonesia, including the economic sector. In the midst of this challenge, street vendors (PKL) have become one of the important actors who play a role in economic turnover. However, street vendors are also at high risk of being exposed to Covid-19 due to direct interaction with many people. To reduce the spread of this virus, the government has implemented various steps, including social distribution protocols. Nevertheless, there are still many people who do not obey the health protocol. This study aims to explore the factors that influence the application of social distraction among street vendors in Pasar Merah Barat Village, with a focus on predisposing factors, possible factors, and reinforcing factors.
Background
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in the way people live, work, and interact with each other. In Indonesia, the government has implemented various measures to control the spread of the virus, including social distribution protocols. However, despite these efforts, many people still do not obey the health protocol. Street vendors, who are an essential part of the economic sector, are particularly vulnerable to the risks associated with Covid-19. They are often exposed to large numbers of people, which increases their risk of contracting the virus.
Methodology
This study uses quantitative methods with analytical survey design and cross-sectional approaches. The population studied consisted of 54 street vendors in Pasar Merah Barat Village, where all of these traders were sampled in accordance with the provisions of Suhasimi Arikunto (2010) regarding sampling. Univariate and bivariate analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square test to identify the relationship between existing variables.
Results
The results of this study showed that there was a significant relationship between several variables and social distribution actions. The attitude variable as a predisposing factor shows the value of P = 0.037, which indicates that the attitude of traders affects the application of social distraction. In addition, the factors that facilitate, such as facilities and infrastructure, have a value of P = 0.001, indicate that the availability of facilities contributes positively to social distribution efforts. Finally, support from the family as a reinforcement factor is also found to be related to social distancing, with the value of P = 0.008.
Discussion
The results of this study highlight the importance of increasing the understanding of street vendors regarding social distribution. It is hoped that street vendors will be more active in finding information about this health protocol and consistently apply it. The application of social distancing is not only an individual responsibility, but must also be conveyed to other traders and customers. Always reminding each other to run a 3M protocol (wearing a mask, washing hands, and maintaining distance) while selling and transacting can help minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Collective efforts like this are very important to protect the health of themselves and others in this pandemic period.
