Introduction

School-Based Management (SBM) is a concept of education management that gives greater authority and responsibility to schools. This approach is expected to improve the quality of education by increasing participation, transparency, and accountability among school residents. In this study, we will explore the implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun, Barumun District, Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra Province, and examine its alignment with the principles of good school governance.
Methodology
This study uses a descriptive survey method to collect data through questionnaires, interviews, literature studies, and documentation studies. The data analysis is carried out using a frequency table to understand the extent of the implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun.
Implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun
The results of the study show that the implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun has been running in accordance with the principles of good school governance. This can be seen from the increasing participation, transparency, and accountability of school residents in school management. Despite the progress made, the study also reveals several obstacles faced in the implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun. Among these are:

- Low quality and quantity of criticism and suggestions from students and parents of students
- Incompatibility of school decisions with the wishes of school residents
- Low confidence of school residents towards school integrity

- Low satisfaction of students and parents of students towards school administration
Strategies to Overcome Obstacles
To overcome these obstacles, SMAN 1 Barumun can take strategic steps, including:
- Optimizing information from outside the agency
- Holding deliberation meetings
- Increasing supervision and control
- Making credit points
- Providing transparent information to all parties about all school activities, ranging from planning, implementation, to accountability reports
Conclusion
The implementation of SBM at SMAN 1 Barumun can continue to develop and have a positive impact on the quality of education in the school. Through efforts made to overcome obstacles, MBS in SMAN 1 Barumun can be an example of the application of good school governance principles at the upper middle level.
