Response Of Watermelon Plants Due To NPK And Zeolite Fertilizer In Pasar Rawa Village, District Of Langkat Regency
Optimizing the Growth of Watermelon: The Impact of NPK and Zeolite Fertilizers in Pasar Rawa Village
Introduction
Watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) is a highly popular and nutritious vine that is widely cultivated in various parts of the world. However, high fertilizer costs are a major obstacle for watermelon farmers, as it requires a significant investment. Without a standard fertilization guide for watermelon cultivation, determining the optimal dose for plants can be complicated. In Pasar Rawa Village, Gebang District, Langkat Regency, watermelon cultivation in the dry season faces the challenges of water limitations. The use of zeolite in agriculture is expected to increase the efficiency of using fertilizer and water.
Background of the Study
Watermelon cultivation is a significant economic activity in Pasar Rawa Village, with many farmers relying on it as their primary source of income. However, the lack of a standard fertilization guide and the high cost of fertilizers can make it challenging for farmers to achieve optimal yields. The use of zeolite in agriculture has been shown to improve soil fertility and water retention, making it an attractive option for farmers. This study aims to investigate the impact of NPK and zeolite fertilizers on watermelon growth in Pasar Rawa Village.
Methodology
This study was conducted in Pasar Rawa Village, Gebang District, Langkat Regency, at an altitude of 5 meters above sea level. The study took place from March to May 2023. The research design used a complete group design of the group (RAKL) with 2 factors and 3 replications. Factor I is the dose of NPK fertilizer (500 kg/ha, 700 kg/ha, 900 kg/ha, 1100 kg/ha, 1300 kg/ha, and 1500 kg/ha) and factor II is the application of zeolite (without zeolite and zeolite application with a ratio of 1: 1 to the dose of fertilizer).
Results
The results showed that the application of fertilizer on various doses had a significant effect on the weight and diameter of the fruit. The use of zeolite in combination with NPK fertilizer has proven to have a positive impact on watermelon growth. Zeolite helps increase water and nutritional retention in the soil, thus helping watermelon plants absorb nutrients more effectively, even in the dry season.
Further Analysis
The Effect of NPK Fertilizer Dosage
The results showed that an increase in NPK fertilizer doses to a certain extent can increase the weight and diameter of the fruit. However, the use of too high doses can actually have a negative effect. This shows the importance of determining the optimal dose that is appropriate to achieve the best results.
The Role of Zeolites
The use of zeolite in combination with NPK fertilizer has proven to have a positive impact on watermelon growth. Zeolite helps increase water and nutritional retention in the soil, thus helping watermelon plants absorb nutrients more effectively, even in the dry season.
The Importance of Sustainable Research
This research opens opportunities for further research on optimizing the use of zeolite in watermelon cultivation. It is necessary to do more in-depth research to determine the optimal ratio of zeolite application to the dose of fertilizer, as well as its effect on other aspects such as fruit quality and plant resistance to disease.
Conclusion
This study provides evidence that NPK and Zeolite fertilizer applications can be an effective solution to increase the growth and yield of watermelon in Pasar Rawa Village. However, it is essential to determine the optimal dose of NPK fertilizer and appropriate zeolite application ratio in order to maximize its benefits and avoid negative side effects.
Recommendations
The results of this study are expected to be a reference for watermelon farmers in Pasar Rawa Village and surrounding areas in applying more efficient and sustainable cultivation techniques. It is recommended that farmers use a combination of NPK and zeolite fertilizers to achieve optimal yields. Additionally, further research is needed to determine the optimal ratio of zeolite application to the dose of fertilizer and its effect on other aspects of watermelon cultivation.
Limitations of the Study
This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a specific location, Pasar Rawa Village, and may not be representative of other areas. Secondly, the study only investigated the effect of NPK and zeolite fertilizers on watermelon growth and did not consider other factors that may affect growth, such as soil type and climate.
Future Research Directions
This study opens opportunities for further research on optimizing the use of zeolite in watermelon cultivation. Future research should focus on determining the optimal ratio of zeolite application to the dose of fertilizer and its effect on other aspects of watermelon cultivation, such as fruit quality and plant resistance to disease.
