Introduction
Skin disease is a common health problem found in society, affecting millions of people worldwide. In Indonesia, skin diseases are a significant public health concern, particularly in densely populated areas such as Islamic boarding schools. Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School in Medan City is one such institution where students are vulnerable to the development of skin diseases due to the densely populated environment and lack of attention to personal hygiene. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the level of knowledge and hygienic actions to skin diseases in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School in 2019.
The Importance of Hygiene in Prevention of Skin Diseases
Hygiene or cleanliness is a crucial aspect of maintaining health and preventing disease, including skin diseases. Good hygiene practices include personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and cleanliness at work. Personal hygiene involves regular bathing, washing hands, and using clean clothing. Environmental cleanliness involves keeping the living and learning environment clean, including the use of clean water and proper waste disposal. Cleanliness at work involves maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of chemicals.

This study aims to reveal the relationship between the level of knowledge and acts of hygiene to skin diseases in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School, Medan in 2019. The study aims to answer the following research questions:
- What is the level of knowledge about skin diseases among students in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School?
- What are the hygienic actions taken by students to prevent skin diseases?
- Is there a relationship between the level of knowledge and hygienic actions to skin diseases in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School?
Research Methods
This study uses a descriptive method with cross-sectional research design. Primary data were obtained directly from students through questionnaires designed to assess the level of knowledge and acts of their hygiene in the pesantren environment. The questionnaire consisted of two parts: the first part assessed the level of knowledge about skin diseases, and the second part assessed the hygienic actions taken by students to prevent skin diseases.
Research Results
The results showed that the most common skin disease found in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School was tinea versicolor and acne (72 santri), followed by scabies and ringworm (69 santri). Regarding the level of knowledge, as many as 78 students have good knowledge about skin diseases, while 63 students have poor knowledge. In terms of action, 80 students have good hygiene to skin diseases, while 61 students have poor hygiene.
Conclusion
Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and acts of hygiene to the incidence of skin diseases in Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Islamic Boarding School. Good knowledge of skin diseases and appropriate hygiene actions are very important to prevent skin diseases.

Fostering and counseling about skin diseases and how to prevent it needs to be done routinely to students. This can be done through regular health education sessions, workshops, and training programs.

Pesantren need to ensure the availability of adequate cleaning facilities, such as clean bathrooms and sufficient clean water. This can be done by providing clean and safe water sources, installing proper waste disposal systems, and maintaining clean and hygienic bathrooms.
Cleanliness Campaign
Cleanliness Campaign can be done regularly to build a clean culture in the pesantren environment. This can be done through regular cleaning and disinfection of the living and learning environment, proper waste disposal, and promoting good hygiene practices among students.
Collaboration with Health Workers
