Relationship Of Social Media Use, Knowledge And Attitudes With Teenage Sexual Behavior HKBP Sidorame High School In 2024
The Impact of Social Media, Knowledge, and Attitudes on Teenage Sexual Behavior in HKBP Sidorame High School in 2024
Introduction
The teenage years are a period of significant growth and development, marked by physical, psychological, intellectual, social, and sexual changes. Unfortunately, many teenagers are involved in risky sexual behavior, which can have serious consequences for their health and well-being. Various factors can contribute to this behavior, including the use of social media, knowledge, and attitudes towards sexuality. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the use of social media, knowledge, and attitudes with adolescent sexual behavior in HKBP Sidorame High School in 2024.
Methodology
This study employed a quantitative analysis with a cross-sectional study design. The research population consisted of 50 active students in Sidorame HKBP High School, with the entire population used as research subjects. Data was collected through questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data was then analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
Results
The results of this study showed a significant relationship between the use of social media and adolescent sexual behavior in Sidorame HKBP High School, with a value of p = 0.003 smaller than α = 0.05. Additionally, a significant relationship was found between knowledge and attitudes towards adolescent sexual behavior, with the same P value (0.003 < α = 0.05). These findings suggest that these factors contribute significantly to adolescent sexual behavior.
The Impact of Social Media on Adolescent Sexual Behavior
Social media has a significant impact on shaping adolescent attitudes and knowledge about sexuality. Teenagers who are more active on social media tend to receive various information, both positive and negative, which can affect their understanding of sexual behavior. For example, content that contains sexual elements can strengthen permissive attitudes towards risky behavior. This can lead to a higher likelihood of engaging in unprotected sex, which can result in unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
The Importance of Knowledge in Shaping Adolescent Attitudes
Good knowledge about reproductive health can help adolescents make wiser decisions about their sexual behavior. Education about comprehensive sexuality is expected to increase knowledge and change adolescent attitudes to be more positive, enabling them to avoid risky behavior. This is particularly important in the context of social media, where teenagers are exposed to a wide range of information, some of which may be inaccurate or misleading.
Recommendations for Preventing Risky Behavior
Based on these findings, researchers recommend that the school make efforts to minimize adolescent sexual behavior by providing adequate reproductive health education, as well as counseling and guidance related to the use of social media. By providing appropriate education, it is expected that adolescents can better understand the consequences of sexual behavior and use social media wisely.
Conclusion
This study provides an important picture of the relationship between the use of social media, knowledge, and attitudes with adolescent sexual behavior, as well as providing directions for efforts to prevent risk behavior among adolescents. The findings of this study highlight the need for schools to provide comprehensive sexuality education and counseling to help adolescents make informed decisions about their sexual behavior. By doing so, we can help reduce the incidence of risky behavior and promote healthy relationships among adolescents.
Limitations of the Study
This study had several limitations, including the small sample size and the use of a cross-sectional study design. Future studies should aim to recruit a larger sample size and use a longitudinal study design to examine the relationship between social media use, knowledge, and attitudes with adolescent sexual behavior over time.
Future Directions
Future studies should aim to investigate the relationship between social media use, knowledge, and attitudes with adolescent sexual behavior in different cultural and socio-economic contexts. Additionally, researchers should explore the effectiveness of different interventions aimed at reducing risky behavior among adolescents, such as comprehensive sexuality education and counseling.
