Relationship Of Quality Of School Life (Quality Of School Life) With Discipline In Pematangsiantar State High School 4 Students
Introduction
The quality of school life has a significant impact on the development of students' views and positive feelings while in the school environment. When students have positive views and feelings, they tend to behave according to the rules or norms that apply in school. The rules and norms applied in SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar function as a guide for student disciplinary behavior. This research aims to determine the relationship between the quality of school life and discipline among students.
Background
The quality of school life is a crucial aspect of education that has been extensively studied in recent years. Research has shown that a positive school environment can have a significant impact on students' academic performance, social skills, and emotional well-being. On the other hand, a negative school environment can lead to decreased motivation, increased behavioral problems, and lower academic achievement. Therefore, it is essential to understand the relationship between the quality of school life and discipline in order to develop effective strategies for improving student behavior and academic performance.
Methodology
This study employed a quantitative correlational design to examine the relationship between the quality of school life and discipline among students. Data was collected using cluster sampling techniques through scale distribution to 266 Pematangsiantar State High School 4 students. The measuring instrument used was the scale of school life quality based on the aspects proposed by Batten and William (1981), which has a reliability value of 0.936. In addition, the scale of discipline refers to the aspects proposed by Hurlock (1999) with a reliability value of 0.922. All data collected was then analyzed statistically using the Pearson Product Moment method.
Results
The results of the data analysis showed a significant correlation between the quality of school life and discipline in Pematangsiantar State High School 4 students. That is, the better the quality of school life that students feel, the higher the level of their discipline. These findings provide important insights in almost two perspectives: First, positive quality of school life can improve student discipline and behavior, and second, the importance of attention to the quality of the school environment in educational efforts.
Discussion
The findings of this study have significant implications for education policymakers, teachers, and parents. The results suggest that a positive school environment is essential for improving student discipline and behavior. Therefore, schools need to focus more on creating a supporting and positive learning environment, so that students feel comfortable and motivated to comply with existing rules. Initiatives such as extracurricular activities, good social interaction between students, and the support of teachers can contribute greatly in improving the quality of school life.
Conclusion
Effective learning does not only come from a good curriculum, but also from the atmosphere and quality of interactions that exist in the school. When students feel valued and have a comfortable place in school, they will be more committed to following the rules and acting disciplined. This research is expected to contribute to school policies and better efforts to improve the educational environment for the next generation.
