Introduction

The elderly population is a vital segment of society, requiring special attention and care to ensure their well-being. In Indonesia, the government has implemented various health policies and programs to cater to the needs of the elderly, including the elderly posyandu activities. These activities are conducted by health cadres, assisted by health workers at the Puskesmas, with the aim of improving the health and welfare of the elderly. However, the behavior of health cadres plays a crucial role in determining the success of these activities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between cadre behavior and the coverage of elderly posyandu activities in the working area of Pantai Cermin Pantai Puskesmas, Pantai Cermin District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, in 2017.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach with an analytical descriptive design and cross-sectional design. The research subjects consisted of the entire cadre population, totaling 40 people. Data analysis techniques used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test to examine the relationship between cadre behavior and the coverage of elderly posyandu activities.

Demographic Characteristics of Cadres

The majority of cadres were in the age group 35-44 years, with 15 people (42.5%) falling within this category. The highest educational background was recorded among 25 people (62.5%). Cadre knowledge about the health of the elderly was categorized as medium, with 27 people (67.5%) possessing this level of knowledge. A good attitude was recorded among 38 people (95.0%), while cadre actions were also in the good category, with a total of 26 people (65.0%).

Implementation of Elderly Posyandu Activities

The scope of the implementation of activities in several villages was still classified as bad, reaching 60.0% of the 3 villages studied. This indicates that there is still a significant gap in the coverage of elderly posyandu activities in these villages.

Analysis of Cadre Behavior

More in-depth analysis revealed that cadre knowledge had a significant effect on the implementation of elderly posyandu activities (p = 0.048). However, the attitude of the cadre did not show a significant effect (p = 0.218), but the cadre's actions were proven to have a significant effect (p = 0.035) on the scope of the implementation of the activity.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Overall, the behavior of health cadres has a significant influence on the implementation of elderly posyandu activities. It is essential for cadres to increase their knowledge and actions, as well as optimize communication with the elderly, to ensure the success of this health program. To achieve this, the Puskesmas should provide incentives to cadres who are active in posyandu activities as a form of motivation. Additionally, the delivery of information about the activities of the elderly posyandu needs to be carried out optimally by all interested parties, especially by the health cadres themselves. Cadres are expected to be more proactive in inviting the elderly to attend and participate in posyandu activities, provide counseling on health, and implement additional food provision programs and filling cards to the elderly.
