Relationship between Psoriasis Patient Compliance Levels on Topical Drugs with Repair Rashes at H Adam Malik Hospital Medan
Introduction
Psoriasis: A Chronic Skin Disease Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin disease characterized by symptoms of erythema with a firm limit, accompanied by rough squats that are layered and transparent. This symptom can also involve phenomena such as wax drops, signs of auspitz, and KΓΆbner's reaction. The psoriasis healing process is very dependent on the level of patient compliance in undergoing treatment, especially the use of topical drugs. Unfortunately, many studies have shown that the level of compliance of psoriasis patients in Indonesia is still low, and research that investigates the relationship between treatment compliance and rash improvement is still limited.
Understanding Psoriasis and Its Treatment
The Importance of Patient Compliance Patient compliance is a crucial factor in the treatment of psoriasis. The use of topical drugs is a common treatment approach for psoriasis, and it requires patients to adhere to a specific regimen. However, many patients struggle to comply with their treatment plans, which can lead to poor treatment outcomes. In this study, we aim to investigate the relationship between patient compliance levels and the effectiveness of topical drugs in repairing psoriasis rashes.
Research Methods
Data Collection and Analysis This study is analytic and uses the Chi-Square test method to analyze data obtained from 34 patients in the Polyclinic Subdivision of immunodermatology SMF I Skin and Genitals in Hospital H Adam Malik Medan. Samples are taken using the total sampling method. The questionnaire that has been tested is used as a data collection tool. The data collected includes patient demographics, treatment history, and compliance levels.
Research Results
The Relationship between Compliance and Treatment Outcomes The results showed that of 34 psoriasis patients, only 3 patients (18.8%) with high compliance rates had improved in their skin conditions. Conversely, among patients who have a low level of compliance, as many as 8 people (100%) do not show improvement. These results indicate a significant relationship between the level of patient compliance with treatment by repairing psoriasis rashes.
Analysis
Factors Affecting Patient Compliance Non-compliance in consuming drugs can slow down the healing process and has the potential to worsen the condition of the skin. There are several factors that might affect the level of patient compliance, including their understanding of diseases, drug side effects, and support from health workers. It is essential to identify these factors to develop effective strategies to improve patient compliance.
The Importance of Patient Education
Increasing Patient Awareness It is crucial to increase patient awareness about the benefits and how to use topical drugs correctly. Appropriate education can help patients to better understand the importance of compliance in treatment, which in turn can accelerate the healing process and improve their quality of life. Health workers play a vital role in educating patients and providing them with the necessary support to adhere to their treatment plans.
Suggestions for Improving Patient Compliance
Increasing Support and Communication It is expected that psoriasis patients are more obedient in undergoing topical treatment to facilitate the recovery process. In addition, further research needs to be done to identify the factors that cause this non-compliance, so that it is expected to increase the level of compliance with patients in undergoing treatment. Increased support and communication between patients and health workers is also very important so that patients feel more motivated to follow the recommended treatment.
Conclusion
The Significance of Patient Compliance In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of patient compliance in the treatment of psoriasis. The results show a significant relationship between patient compliance levels and the effectiveness of topical drugs in repairing psoriasis rashes. It is essential to increase patient awareness and provide them with the necessary support to adhere to their treatment plans. By doing so, we can improve treatment outcomes and enhance the quality of life for psoriasis patients.
Recommendations for Future Research
Identifying Factors Affecting Patient Compliance Further research is needed to identify the factors that affect patient compliance, including their understanding of diseases, drug side effects, and support from health workers. By understanding these factors, we can develop effective strategies to improve patient compliance and enhance treatment outcomes.
Limitations of the Study
Sample Size and Data Collection This study has a limited sample size, which may affect the generalizability of the results. Additionally, the data collection method used in this study may not be representative of the entire population of psoriasis patients.
Future Directions
Improving Patient Compliance Future research should focus on developing effective strategies to improve patient compliance, including patient education and support. By doing so, we can enhance treatment outcomes and improve the quality of life for psoriasis patients.
