Relationship between Knowledge and Behavior of USU FK Students to the Akne Vulgaris Events
Understanding Akne Vulgaris: A Chronic Skin Condition
Akne Vulgaris is a skin condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous follicles, caused by bacteria propionibacterium acnes. The clinical symptoms vary, with the most common manifestations in the form of blackheads, non-inflammatory papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Although Akne Vulgaris does not threaten life, this condition often causes significant aesthetic problems, and can trigger a crisis of self-confidence and depression for sufferers. One risk factor that affects the incidence of Akne Vulgaris is poor knowledge and behavior related to their care and prevention.
The Importance of Knowledge and Behavior in Dealing with Akne Vulgaris
In this study, the focus was to determine the level of knowledge and behavior of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra (USU) to the incidence of Akne Vulgaris in 2018. The method used was observational research with cross-sectional design, involving 88 students chosen by consecutive with predetermined criteria. Data was collected through questionnaires filled out by students who experienced Akne Vulgaris, to assess the level of their knowledge and behavior, and subsequently processed computerly.
The Relationship between Knowledge and Behavior of USU FK Students to Akne Vulgaris
The results showed that the level of knowledge of USU's Faculty of Medicine Students on Akne Vulgaris reached 43.2%, which was categorized as sufficient. Meanwhile, students' attitudes or behavior towards this issue were recorded at 68.2%, which was also included in the category of sufficient. This finding confirms the existence of a significant relationship between students' knowledge and behavior of the Akne Vulgaris incident.
Additional Analysis and Explanation
The importance of good knowledge and behavior in dealing with Akne Vulgaris cannot be underestimated. Adequate knowledge of the causes, prevention and treatment of Akne can increase individual efforts in overcoming this skin problem. As a medical student, a good understanding of Akne is not only important for their personal health, but also to help patients in the future.
The Role of Education in Improving Knowledge and Behavior
On the other hand, good behavior includes the habit of maintaining skin hygiene, selecting appropriate care products, and avoiding trigger factors such as stress and unhealthy eating patterns. Although the results of the study show that students' knowledge and behavior are still in the category of sufficient category, this opens opportunities for improvement. Further education about Akne Vulgaris through seminars, workshops, or health campaign activities can help improve student knowledge and attitudes.
Awareness of the Psychological Impact of Akne Vulgaris
Awareness of the psychological impact of Akne Vulgaris is also important. Students need to be given an understanding of the importance of emotional support and how to deal with social stigma that often arises due to physical appearance.
A Comprehensive Intervention Strategy
Thus, a comprehensive intervention strategy is needed to increase student knowledge and behavior about Akne Vulgaris. Through this effort, it is expected to reduce the incidence of Akne Vulgaris and improve the quality of life for those who experience it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of knowledge and behavior in dealing with Akne Vulgaris. The results of the study show that students' knowledge and behavior are still in the category of sufficient category, but this opens opportunities for improvement. Further education and awareness about Akne Vulgaris are needed to improve student knowledge and attitudes. A comprehensive intervention strategy is required to increase student knowledge and behavior about Akne Vulgaris, and ultimately reduce the incidence of this skin condition.
