Planting and Super Bionic Media Affect the Growth of Oil Palm Seeds (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the most widely cultivated crops in the world, particularly in tropical regions. The growth and development of oil palm seedlings are crucial for the success of oil palm cultivation. Various factors can influence the growth of oil palm seedlings, including planting media and super bionic liquid fertilizer. This study aims to investigate the effect of different types of planting media and super bionic liquid fertilizer on the growth of oil palm seeds.

This study was conducted at Main Nursery from February to May 2004. The study used a separate plot design (RPT) with two factors and three replications. The main factors in this study were planting media, which consisted of three types: M0 (top soil), MX (top soil + compost), and M2 (top soil + sludge). In addition, super bionic liquid fertilizer was applied as an additional treatment, with four levels namely S0 (0 cc/1 water), S1 (2.5 cc/1 water), S2 (5.0 cc/1 water), and S3 (7.5 cc/1 water). The parameters observed in this study included plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, total leaves, wet weight, and dry weight of the seeds.

The results of this study indicate that the planting media has a significant influence on the growth of oil palm seedlings in all observed parameters. The best treatment was obtained from M2 planting media (top soil + sludge), where plant height growth, stem diameter, number of leaves, total leaves, wet weight, and dry weight of the seeds indicate the highest value. On the other hand, the administration of super bionic liquid fertilizer also shows a significant effect on the growth of seeds. The results obtained from all growth parameters show that the super bionic gives positive results, especially at the S2 level (5.0 cc/1 water), where the growth of the seeds looks optimal.

However, the interaction between planting media and super bionic administration does not show a significant effect on all observed growth parameters. This shows that although these two factors contribute positively to the growth of oil palm seedlings, they work independently and do not affect each other.

The results of this study suggest that the type of planting media used can significantly affect the growth of oil palm seedlings. The use of M2 planting media (top soil + sludge) resulted in the highest growth of plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, total leaves, wet weight, and dry weight of the seeds. This suggests that the addition of sludge to the top soil can improve the growth of oil palm seedlings.

The administration of super bionic liquid fertilizer also shows a significant effect on the growth of seeds. The results obtained from all growth parameters show that the super bionic gives positive results, especially at the S2 level (5.0 cc/1 water), where the growth of the seeds looks optimal. This suggests that the use of super bionic liquid fertilizer can improve the growth of oil palm seedlings.

However, the interaction between planting media and super bionic administration does not show a significant effect on all observed growth parameters. This suggests that the two factors work independently and do not affect each other.

Based on this study, it can be concluded that the planting media used and the use of super bionic liquid fertilizer have a significant impact on the growth of oil palm seedlings. For optimal growth, the use of M2 planting media (top soil + sludge) and super bionic fertilizer at the S2 level (5.0 cc/1 water) is highly recommended. This study made an important contribution in the management of oil palm seedlings and could be a reference for farmers or those involved in the field of oil palm agriculture.

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations can be made:

  • The use of M2 planting media (top soil + sludge) is recommended for optimal growth of oil palm seedlings.
  • The use of super bionic liquid fertilizer at the S2 level (5.0 cc/1 water) is recommended for optimal growth of oil palm seedlings.
  • Further studies can be conducted to investigate the effect of other factors on the growth of oil palm seedlings.

This study has some limitations, including:

  • The study was conducted in a controlled environment, which may not reflect the actual conditions in the field.
  • The study only investigated the effect of two factors on the growth of oil palm seedlings, and further studies can be conducted to investigate the effect of other factors.

This study provides a foundation for further research on the growth of oil palm seedlings. Future studies can be conducted to investigate the effect of other factors on the growth of oil palm seedlings, such as the effect of different types of fertilizers, the effect of different types of irrigation systems, and the effect of different types of pruning techniques.

By utilizing the results of this study, it is expected that future palm oil production can increase, and provide better economic benefits for farmers.
