Overview of the Level of Lighting and Labor Productivity in Workers Auto Formation in PT. Pioneer of Indonesian Fishing Facilities in 2019

Introduction

Lighting is a crucial factor in the work environment, especially in industries that require high accuracy, such as in PT. Pioneer of Indonesian Fishing Facilities, which is engaged in the production of fishing lines. Good lighting not only affects the health of workers but also contributes greatly to their productivity. This study aims to describe the level of lighting and productivity of labor in the auto section of formation at PT. Pioneer of Indonesian Fishing Facilities in 2019.

The Importance of Lighting in the Work Environment

Lighting is essential in the work environment as it affects the health and productivity of workers. In industries that require high accuracy, such as in PT. Pioneer of Indonesian Fishing Facilities, good lighting is crucial to ensure that workers can perform their tasks accurately and efficiently. Poor lighting can lead to eye strain, headaches, and fatigue, which can negatively impact productivity and overall performance.

Methodology

This research is descriptive with the population of all workers in the auto section of formation. A sample of 9 workers was selected for the study. The measurement results show that none of the 9 lighting points meet the standards set by the Regulation of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia No. 5 of 2018, which is 300 Lux. The highest measurement reached 263 lux, and the lowest was 111 lux, indicating that the lighting in this area is in very poor conditions.

Productivity of Labor

The daily target of workers is 500,000 fishing lines. However, for six working days, only three days (50%) of workers managed to reach the target, while the other three days were unable to reach the target with the amount of production below 500,000. The average production for six working days is also below standard, with results that do not meet the target, reaching 10,238 units, where the highest number is 13,834 units and the lowest is 9,946 units.

Relationship between Lighting and Productivity

There is a clear relationship between the level of lighting and productivity of workers. Workers who experience low lighting tend to produce lower production and produce more defective products. This indicates the importance of adequate lighting in supporting the accuracy and concentration of workers. In addition, the efficiency of production time has also not been maximally utilized, showing the need for a more comprehensive evaluation of work time regulation.

Recommendations for Improvement

To increase lighting, companies are advised to take advantage of natural lighting as much as possible, arrange a better work desk, and manage the lights of the room so that the distribution is evenly distributed. These steps are expected to increase the level of lighting to meet the specified standards. With the improvement of lighting, it is also expected that the productivity of workers will increase, produce better product quality, and reduce errors in the production process.

Conclusion

By understanding the importance of lighting in the context of labor productivity, PT. The pioneer of Indonesian fishing facilities can implement the improvements needed to achieve the expected standards and maximize their labor potential. Evaluation of the production process regularly is also very important to minimize errors and improve overall performance.

Implications for Future Research

This study highlights the importance of lighting in the work environment and its impact on labor productivity. Future research can explore the relationship between lighting and productivity in other industries and settings. Additionally, studies can investigate the effectiveness of different lighting solutions and their impact on worker health and productivity.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations. The sample size is small, and the study only focuses on the auto section of formation. Future research can expand the sample size and include other sections of the company to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between lighting and productivity.

Recommendations for Practice

Companies can benefit from implementing the recommendations outlined in this study to improve lighting and productivity. By taking advantage of natural lighting, arranging better work desks, and managing lights, companies can increase the level of lighting to meet the specified standards. This can lead to increased productivity, better product quality, and reduced errors in the production process.

In this article, we will answer some frequently asked questions about lighting and productivity.

Q: What is the ideal level of lighting in the work environment?

A: The ideal level of lighting in the work environment varies depending on the task and industry. However, the Regulation of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia No. 5 of 2018 recommends a minimum of 300 Lux for most tasks.

Q: What are the consequences of poor lighting in the work environment?

A: Poor lighting in the work environment can lead to eye strain, headaches, and fatigue, which can negatively impact productivity and overall performance. It can also lead to errors and accidents, which can have serious consequences.

Q: How can companies improve lighting in the work environment?

A: Companies can improve lighting in the work environment by taking advantage of natural lighting, arranging better work desks, and managing lights to ensure even distribution. They can also consider using LED lights, which are energy-efficient and can provide better lighting.

Q: What is the relationship between lighting and productivity?

A: There is a clear relationship between lighting and productivity. Workers who experience good lighting tend to be more productive and accurate, while those who experience poor lighting tend to be less productive and accurate.

Q: How can companies measure the impact of lighting on productivity?

A: Companies can measure the impact of lighting on productivity by tracking productivity metrics, such as the number of units produced, the number of errors made, and the time taken to complete tasks. They can also conduct surveys to understand the impact of lighting on worker satisfaction and well-being.

Q: What are the benefits of improving lighting in the work environment?

A: The benefits of improving lighting in the work environment include increased productivity, better product quality, reduced errors, and improved worker satisfaction and well-being. It can also lead to cost savings and improved competitiveness.
