Morphological Characterization Of Red Rice Rice Plants (Oryza Sativa L.) In Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province
Morphological Characterization of Red Rice Rice Plants (Oryza sativa L.) in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province
Introduction
The study of morphological characterization of red rice rice plants (Oryza sativa L.) in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, is a crucial aspect of understanding the diversity and potential of existing varieties. The morphological character of brown rice is a vital factor in determining its quality and potential for cultivation. This study aims to identify the morphological character of brown rice (Oryza sativa L.) which grows in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, and to contribute to the breeding of brown rice.
The study was conducted from March to May 2018 using the survey method, with a focus on 30 access in three different locations. The researchers referred to the guidebook "Characterization System and Evaluation of Rice Crops" published by BPPP in 2003. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, which allowed researchers to take a coincidence sample at the study site. A total of 41 parameters were observed, consisting of 15 quantitative characters and 26 qualitative characters.
Methodology
The study employed a survey method to collect data on the morphological character of brown rice. The researchers used the SPSS program to analyze the data and identify patterns and relationships between the variables. The Euclidean distance method was used to calculate the similarity or difference between two variables. This method is a statistical technique used to determine the distance between two points in a multi-dimensional space.
The study involved the observation of 30 access in three different locations, with a total of 41 parameters observed. The parameters included quantitative characters such as plant height, panicle length, and the number of grains per panicle, as well as qualitative characters such as the color of the grain, the shape of the leaves, and the type of rice.
Results
The results of the study showed the existence of two groups formed based on dendrograms. The first group consisted of 27 access, while the second group only consisted of 3 access to brown rice. This grouping was carried out based on the distance of Euclidean, which is a statistical method to calculate how similar or different two variables.
The analysis of the data showed that the morphological character of brown rice is very important to determine the potential and quality of existing varieties. The quantitative character observed includes plant height, panicle length, and the number of grains per panicle, while qualitative characters include the color of the grain, the shape of the leaves, and the type of rice.
Discussion
The morphological character of brown rice is a vital factor in determining its quality and potential for cultivation. The study of morphological characterization of red rice rice plants (Oryza sativa L.) in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, is a crucial aspect of understanding the diversity and potential of existing varieties.
