Totap Majawa Village in Tanah Jawa District, Simalungun Regency, is an interesting research location for understanding the Mina Padi Mas Fish Maca Farming System. This research has the main goal of exploring several important aspects in managing mina rice farming. First, research aims to determine the increase in the allocation of factors of production which includes labor, land, and capital. Second, this study aims to determine the increase in the income of paddy rice farmers that occur thanks to the farm of Mina Padi. Third, the analysis is also aimed at identifying motivational factors that encourage rice farmers to be involved in Mina Padi farming. Finally, this research also wants to see the relationship between farmers' characteristics and increased income from Mina Padi farming.
Research Methodology
Survey Method with Questionnaires and Interviews
The research method used is a survey with instruments in the form of questionnaires and interviews. Researchers select location purposively and take samples by random sampling carried out in three stages. The first phase of choosing Totap Majawa Village which consists of eight hamlets, followed by the selection of three dominant hamlets to carry out the MINA Mine Fish Farming System, and the last stage is the determination of a sample of 10% of the population in the three hamlets. Data analysis is carried out with descriptive analysis and correlation analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software.
Results and Discussion
Increase in Land Area and Labor Allocation
The results showed that there was an increase in land area from the planting index (IP) which was initially 1 increased to 2.51. This increase consists of a 14.50 hectare stretch of rice (IP = 0.73) and Mina Padi Tumpangsari covering an area of 15.55 hectares (IP = 0.78). In terms of labor, Mina Padi farming caused an increase in the allocation of workers in the family of 172.97 HKSP per hectare, which contributed 213.36% of the previous workforce allocation. In addition, workers outside the family also increased by 30.85 HKSP or 50.76%.
Increase in Capital and Income
In terms of capital, there is a significant increase, which is Rp. 22,945,568.00 per hectare or 560.43% of capital in paddy farming. From the income analysis, Mina Padi's farming shows an increase in income of Rp 10,266,987.40 per hectare, with a total family increase of Rp 14,158,754.45 per hectare.
Motivational Factors and Farmers' Characteristics
Research also revealed that the main motivation of farmers in carrying out mina rice farming is because it is considered profitable (97.30%), followed by its ability to break the life cycle of pests and diseases (91.89%), as well as improvement of sanitation and eradication (81.08%). The importance of farmers' characteristics cannot be ignored, because it has a significant influence on increasing income from Mina Padi farming. These characteristics include social aspects, such as age, length of formal education, length of time trying to farm rice fields, and the number of family members. On the economic side, this characteristic includes the area of the paddy fields managed, the area of the Mina Padi Settings business land, as well as the amount of capital invested.
