Introduction
Rainforest Lodges Kedah, an ecotourism area in the Aceh KPH V Protection Forest area managed by KTH based on a cooperation agreement, has an important role for the surrounding community. This area is not only a source of livelihood through natural tourism, but also provides important resources such as medicinal plants and clean water. The use of plants as a drug has become a tradition of hereditary for the Gayo tribe in the region, long before the development of modern drugs. This traditional knowledge is a valuable asset that needs to be preserved.
Background
The Gayo tribe in the region has a long history of using plants as a source of medicine. This traditional knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation and is an important part of their cultural heritage. However, with the development of modern medicine, the use of medicinal plants has declined, and the knowledge of these plants is at risk of being lost. Methodology
Research was conducted from March to December 2021 to understand the perception of the community towards medicinal plants, conduct an inventory of medicinal plant species in the Rainforest Lodges Kedah ecotourism area, and analyze the conservation strategy of medicinal plants using the SWOT method. The results of the research showed that the perception of the Gayo community towards medicinal plants was classified as good. The inventory found 31 families, 45 species, and 517 individual medicinal plants with various habitus, including trees, palm, shrubs, liana, shrubs, and herbal plants.
Results
The SWOT analysis produced a value of 1.15 (x axis) and 0.90 (Y axis), which places conservation strategies in quadrant 1. This shows that Rainforest Lodges Kedah ecotourism has a great opportunity to minimize weaknesses, utilize strength as the main capital, and reduce threats. The results of the research highlight the importance of preserving the traditional knowledge of the Gayo tribe and promoting the conservation of medicinal plants.
