Introduction

The academic success of students is a crucial aspect of education, and various factors contribute to it. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of North Sumatra (USU) has been conducting research to understand the linkages between student academic success levels and their educational background, parental education, and motivation. This study aims to analyze the relationship between these factors and academic success among Diploma-3 students of the 2015 class statistical study program at FMIPA USU.

Methodology

This study employed an associative causal research design, where the population studied was a Diploma-3 student of the 2015 class statistical study program at FMIPA USU. The samples taken were 20 people, with data collection methods using questionnaires and literature studies. Hypothesis testing was carried out using non-parametric statistical methods.

Results

The results showed that simultaneously, student education background, parental education, and motivation had a positive and significant effect on the level of student academic success. This means that these three factors together have an important role in determining how good the student academic performance is. In addition, partial analysis also shows that the three variables each have a positive and significant influence on academic success.
