Introduction

The health problems faced by Indonesia, especially in the context of infectious diseases, are a serious concern for the community. One disease that is often sticking out is dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), which can occur in the form of extraordinary events (KLB) in various regions. Medan City, which is included in the category of endemic areas, has a high potential for the emergence of DHF cases, especially in the rainy season when the conditions for mosquito breeding are very supportive. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of health promotion programs in efforts to eradicate DHF at Medan Johor Health Center in Medan Johor District in 2020.

Background

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a serious disease that can cause significant morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. The disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is commonly found in urban and rural areas. Medan City, being an endemic area, has a high risk of DHF outbreaks, especially during the rainy season. The health promotion program implemented at Medan Johor Health Center aims to educate the community about the prevention and control of DHF.

Methodology

The type of research conducted is interactive qualitative research. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with related parties at the Puskesmas and the surrounding community. The results of the data analysis show that the implementation of the DHF eradication program at Medan Johor Health Center has not been running optimally. Some of the identified obstacles include the limited quantity and quality of resources, lack of training for officers about the eradication of DHF, as well as low awareness and community participation in this activity.

Results

The health promotion program implemented at Medan Johor Health Center shows a shortage in equitable counseling to the community. This causes lack of public knowledge about DHF prevention. Lack of training for Jumantik cadres and health workers is also one of the factors that influence the effectiveness of the program. Inadequate training can result in lack of skills in carrying out DHF eradication activities, so that the impact is felt in socialization activities to the community.

Discussion

The results of this study highlight the importance of effective health promotion programs in the eradication of DHF. The study shows that the implementation of the program at Medan Johor Health Center has not been running optimally due to several obstacles. The limited quantity and quality of resources, lack of training for officers, and low awareness and community participation are some of the factors that contribute to the ineffectiveness of the program.

Conclusion

The conclusion of this study shows that the successful implementation of the DHF eradication health promotion program at Medan Johor Health Center still faces many challenges. Therefore, it is important for related parties to make maximum efforts in increasing the capacity of human resources and existing facilities. That way, it is hoped that the DHF eradication program can run more effectively and have a positive impact on public health, especially in reducing the risk of DHF outbreaks in the region.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  • Strengthening training programs: Medan Johor Health Center is expected to strengthen training programs for all health workers and cadres of jumantik.
  • Improvement of facilities and infrastructure: The improvement of facilities and infrastructure as well as the use of effective communication media is very necessary so that information about DHF can be delivered widely and clearly.
  • Increasing community participation: Increasing community participation in the program is also necessary to ensure the success of the program.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. The study was conducted in a specific area, Medan Johor District, and the results may not be generalizable to other areas. Additionally, the study was conducted using qualitative research methods, which may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue.

Future Research Directions

Future research should focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the DHF eradication program in other areas and identifying the factors that contribute to the success of the program. Additionally, research should be conducted to identify the most effective strategies for increasing community participation in the program.
