Implementation of the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) at the Padang Health Center in 2016
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has become one of the global health problems, with its increasing prevalence, including in Indonesia. This chronic disease requires sustainable management through comprehensive medical and non-medical interventions. Since 2010, PT. Askes (Persero) has launched a chronic disease management program (Prolanis) in Indonesia. This program aims to improve the quality of diabetes mellitus management by medical personnel, through effective training and monitoring systems. Prolanis is focused on reducing complications that may arise and achieve optimal quality of life with an efficient and rational health service approach.
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide, including in Indonesia. The increasing prevalence of DM has put a significant burden on the healthcare system, making it essential to develop effective management programs. The Prolanis program, launched by PT. Askes (Persero) in 2010, aims to improve the quality of diabetes mellitus management by medical personnel. The program focuses on reducing complications that may arise and achieving optimal quality of life with an efficient and rational health service approach.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of Prolanis in patients with Diabetes Mellitus at Padang Bulan Health Center. This research focuses on implementing staff, facilities and infrastructure, as well as operational costs involved in the program. In addition, this research also wants to know the process of implementing Prolanis and how many patients are routinely participating in the Prolanis club. The method used in this study is qualitative, with data collection through in-depth interviews and document reviews. The informants in this study consisted of seven people, including the Head of the Puskesmas, the Prolanis doctor, the Prolanis officer, and the Prolanis participants. The data obtained are presented in the form of narration and interview matrices.
The results showed that the implementation of Prolanis at the Padang Bulan Health Center was still far from optimal. One indicator is the low awareness and participation of participants in the Prolanis activity, seen from the minimal attendance rate. This situation highlights the need for further efforts in increasing public awareness about the importance of diabetes management and the Prolanis program itself.
The implementation of Prolanis is an important step in handling diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. However, the success of this program depends on the awareness and active participation of patients, as well as solid support from medical personnel and other related parties. To increase participant participation, Padang Bulan Health Center is advised to hold a more aggressive health promotion program. In addition, the strengthening of the implementation of education and joint gymnastics can help increase the enthusiasm of participants in participating in Prolanis activities. Meanwhile, the Medan City Health Office is also expected to strengthen the supervision and support of the implementation of Prolanis in other Puskesmas so that this program can run more effectively.
Overall, the implementation of Prolanis is an important step in handling diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. However, the success of this program depends on the awareness and active participation of patients, as well as solid support from medical personnel and other related parties. With the right improvement and strategy, it is hoped that Prolanis can have a positive impact in managing chronic diseases, especially diabetes mellitus, and improving the quality of life of patients in the community.
Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
- Padang Bulan Health Center should hold a more aggressive health promotion program to increase public awareness about the importance of diabetes management and the Prolanis program itself.
- The strengthening of the implementation of education and joint gymnastics can help increase the enthusiasm of participants in participating in Prolanis activities.
- The Medan City Health Office should strengthen the supervision and support of the implementation of Prolanis in other Puskesmas so that this program can run more effectively.
This study has several limitations, including:
- The study was conducted at a single health center, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
- The study used a qualitative approach, which may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the implementation of Prolanis.
Future research should focus on:
- Conducting a larger-scale study to examine the implementation of Prolanis in multiple health centers.
- Using a mixed-methods approach to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the implementation of Prolanis.
- Examining the impact of Prolanis on patient outcomes and quality of life.
