Introduction

Hospital is a place that provides a variety of complex health services. In Indonesia, the policy determined by the Ministry of Health through Minister of Health Regulation No. 11 of 2017 stipulates that each health service facility is required to ensure patient safety. One way to show this commitment is through accreditation, where patient safety is one of the main indicators. However, based on data from the Patient Quality and Safety Committee Team and the infection Prevention and Control Team in 2018, it turns out that the implementation of patient safety targets at the Medan City Methodist Hospital has not met the established standards.

Patient safety is a critical aspect of healthcare that requires a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the well-being of patients. The implementation of patient safety protocols is essential to prevent medical errors, reduce the risk of infections, and improve the overall quality of care. In this article, we will discuss the implementation of patient safety at the inpatient installation of Medan City Methodist Hospital in 2019.

Methodology

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of patient safety carried out after accreditation. The research method used is qualitative with phenomenological design. As many as 11 informants are determined through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document review. The data that has been collected is then analyzed using the Colaizzi method.

The Colaizzi method is a qualitative data analysis technique that involves a systematic and iterative process of coding and categorizing data. This method is particularly useful for analyzing complex and nuanced data, such as the implementation of patient safety protocols. Results

The results showed that the availability of the number of nurses in the Methodist Hospital was quite adequate, and the nurse's ability to carry out patient safety was good enough. However, there are still a number of facilities and infrastructure that have not been met according to the safety standards. Although compliance with regulations is complete, there are still shortcomings in the implementation of socialization and training that have not been carried out regularly and continuously.

The results of this study highlight the importance of adequate staffing and training in the implementation of patient safety protocols. The availability of a sufficient number of nurses is critical to ensuring that patients receive the care they need in a timely and effective manner. However, the results also suggest that there are still gaps in the implementation of patient safety protocols, particularly in terms of facilities and infrastructure.

Discussion

Obstacles identified in the implementation of patient safety include lack of compliance and motivation among health workers. The communication process between officers also has not fully followed the methods set, such as SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) and FUNCTION (Question, Read, Confirmation). In addition, there are still obstacles in the discipline of marking the location of the operation, and not all health workers take steps to wash hands according to six steps and five recommended moments.

The results of this study highlight the importance of addressing the obstacles to the implementation of patient safety protocols. Lack of compliance and motivation among health workers can lead to a range of negative outcomes, including medical errors and patient harm. The communication process between officers is also critical to ensuring that patient safety protocols are implemented effectively.

Conclusion

Achievement of patient safety goals at Medan City Methodist Hospital is not optimal. This is caused by several factors that prevent the implementation of patient safety in accordance with established standards. Therefore, it is recommended that the hospital increases the provision of facilities and infrastructure and accelerates the commitment of leaders and all medical personnel in the patient safety program. The hospital patient safety team is also expected to conduct regular socialization and give awards or sanctions as long as it is in accordance with the achievements produced by health workers.

Through these efforts, it is expected that patient safety at the Medan City Methodist Hospital can be increased and achieve established standards, so that patients feel safer and maintain their health. With continuous improvement, hospitals can play a better role in providing quality and safe health services for the whole community.
