Introduction

In the modern era, the protection of labor is one of the main focuses of the government. Social Security Labor (Jamsostek) is a program presented to provide protection not only for the workforce but also for their families. The Palembang Municipality, with a total of 3,006 companies and 127,635 people, has seen a significant number of companies participating in the Jamsostek program, involving around 108,865 workers. However, this figure raises questions about the reasons for other companies that have not joined this program, how to implement Jamsostek in this region, and the challenges faced in an effort to expand participation in this program.

Background of the Study

The protection of labor is a crucial aspect of the government's policies, and Jamsostek is one of the programs presented to achieve this goal. The program aims to provide protection for workers and their families, ensuring that they receive the necessary benefits and support in times of need. In the Palembang Municipality, there are a significant number of companies that have not joined the Jamsostek program, which raises concerns about the welfare of their workers.

Research Methodology

This study focuses on companies with 100 or more workers, using a purposive sampling method for state-owned companies and regions, while private companies are taken randomly. In each company, five workers are chosen as respondents using the convenience sampling method. Primary data is obtained through questionnaires, and interviews with related parties are also conducted to enrich information. Secondary data is collected through relevant literature. Data analysis is carried out using a deductive and inductive approach.

Results and Discussion

The results of the study showed that not all companies were willing to include their workforce in the Jamsostek program. To deal with this problem, the Palembang Municipal Manpower Office has given legal sanctions to three companies that do not comply with regulations. However, even though some companies have registered, both workers and entrepreneurs express dissatisfaction with the results of the submission of the guarantee claims they submit.

This creates a bigger challenge, namely the need for education and socialization about the benefits and procedures of Jamsostek. Many workers still do not fully understand the rights and benefits they get from this program. On the other hand, the company also needs incentives to want to participate more actively in Jamsostek, so that supervision and strengthening of regulations must be carried out more stringently by the government.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the implementation of Jamsostek in the Palembang Municipality faces several challenges, including the need for education and socialization about the benefits and procedures of the program. Many workers still do not fully understand the rights and benefits they get from this program, and the company also needs incentives to want to participate more actively in Jamsostek. Therefore, there needs to be more intensive cooperation between the government, employers, and workers to increase understanding of the importance of Social Security.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  1. Education and Socialization: The government, employers, and workers need to work together to educate and socialize about the benefits and procedures of Jamsostek. This can be done through various channels, including workshops, seminars, and training programs.
  2. Incentives: The government needs to provide incentives to companies that participate actively in Jamsostek, such as tax breaks or other benefits.
  3. Supervision and Strengthening of Regulations: The government needs to supervise and strengthen regulations to ensure that companies comply with the requirements of Jamsostek.
  4. Collaboration: There needs to be more intensive cooperation between the government, employers, and workers to increase understanding of the importance of Social Security.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations, including:

  1. Sampling Method: The sampling method used in this study may not be representative of all companies in the Palembang Municipality.
  2. Data Collection: The data collected in this study may not be comprehensive or accurate.
  3. Analysis: The analysis of the data may not be thorough or objective.

Future Research Directions

Future research directions include:

  1. In-depth Study: An in-depth study of the challenges faced by companies in implementing Jamsostek.
  2. Case Study: A case study of companies that have successfully implemented Jamsostek.
  3. Survey: A survey of workers and employers to understand their perceptions and experiences with Jamsostek.
