Introduction

Essential oils from plants have been widely used for their medicinal, culinary, and cosmetic properties. Among the various plant species, Etlingera elastic, commonly known as kecombrang fruit, has been gaining attention for its unique aroma and potential health benefits. Materials and Methods

The essential oils from kecombrang fruit were isolated using the hydrodestylative method with a stahl tool. The hydrodestylative process lasted for about 4 to 5 hours, producing essential oils with a concentration of 0.023% (V/B). The rest of the hydrodestylation was then extracted using water and ethanol solvents, producing water extracts with a level of 0.222% and ethanol extract with a level of 11.113%. The chemical components of the kecombrang fruit essential oil were analyzed using the GC-MS technique, which identified 22 compounds.

Results

The analysis of the chemical components of the kecombrang fruit essential oil revealed the presence of various compounds, including N-Decanal (1.41%), Myristaldehyde (41.04%), 1-dodecanol (33.07%), Dodecanoic Acid (8.67%), Dodecyl Esther (4.54%), Alpha-Humulene (0.15%), and 1,6,10-Dodecatrien-3-OL (0.21%). The antioxidant activity of essential oils and water and ethanol extracts from kecombrang fruit was tested using the DPPH method, which produced IC50 values of 122.51 mg/L, 922.69 mg/L, and 13.39 mg/L, respectively.
