Introduction

The growth of banana culture is a crucial aspect of plant cultivation, and the use of tissue culture techniques has become a popular method for efficiently producing high-quality seeds. The Department of Food and Horticultural Crops, Medan, North Sumatra, conducted a research study on the growth of Barangan banana Bonggol culture (Musa Acuminata L.) from July to October 2020. The study aimed to investigate the effect of a combination of NAA (Naphthaleneacetic acid) and Thidiazuron on the growth of banana tissue culture in MS media.

Research Design and Methodology

The research design used was a complete random design (RAL) with two factors. The first factor was the concentration of NAA, which consisted of four levels: 0.00, 0.60, 1.20, and 1.80 mg/l. The second factor was the concentration of Thidiazuron, which also had four levels: 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15 mg/l. The study used a total of 16 treatments, with each treatment consisting of a combination of NAA and Thidiazuron concentrations.

Results and Discussion

The results of the study showed that the addition of NAA and Thidiazuron had a significant effect on all observed parameters, including shoots, roots, and plantlets. The best treatment for cultural growth was indicated by a combination of NAA at a concentration of 0.60 mg/l and Thidiazuron at a concentration of 0.10 mg/l. This treatment resulted in a total root length of 6.66 cm and a time of bud appearance of around 3.00 days after planting.

The use of NAA and Thidiazuron as growth hormones has a significant impact on stimulating the growth of shoots, roots, and leaves. NAA functions as a regulator of growth that encourages root formation, while Thidiazuron functions to increase the formation of shoots.
