Introduction
In recent years, the demand for sustainable and eco-friendly crops has been on the rise. Methodology
The study was conducted in Block 6 Afdeling II Kebun Adolina, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, from October to December 2016. The research design used a random design of factorial groups, which included two main factors: spacing (20x20 cm, 40x20 cm, and 60x20 cm) and the dosage of N, P, and K fertilizer with a variety of specified comparisons.
In this study, fertilizer treatment was given in the form of:
- Treatment 0 g (control): 2,40 g urea; 0.60 g TSP; 0.60 g KCl per planting hole.
- Medium treatment: 3,60 g urea; 1.20 g TSP; 1.20 g KCl per planting hole.
- High treatment: 4,80 g urea; 2,40 g TSP; 2,40 g KCl per planting hole.
Results
The results showed that the spacing of 60x20 cm (J3) significantly increased the number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh weight of the canopy, and the dry weight of the canopy. In addition, fertilization with the ratio of N, P, and K 4.8: 2,4: 2,4 (P3) also increases all of these growth parameters significantly. Meanwhile, the highest plant height is produced in a spacing treatment of 20x20 cm (J1) with fertilization N, P, and K in a ratio of 2.4: 0.6: 0.6 (P1), which shows results that are not too different than the treatment other.
Discussion
The optimal growth of Kenaf is strongly influenced by the spacing and nutrients given. By using a spacing of 60x20 cm, Kenaf plants have a wider space to develop, which allows better access to sunlight and better air flow. This contributes to the reduction of competition between plants, so that the growth of each individual becomes more leverage.
In addition, the right fertilization also plays an important role. N, P, and K fertilizer functions to support various physiological processes in plants. Nitrogen (N) is very instrumental in vegetative growth, phosphorus (P) is important for root development, and potassium (K) supports plant resistance to stress. Therefore, a balanced dose of fertilizer as in the treatment 4.8: 2.4: 2.4 (P3) is very effective in supporting optimal growth.

Recommendations from this study indicate that to achieve the best growth of Kenaf, you should use a 60x20 cm planting distance along with N, P, and K fertilization in a ratio of 4.8: 2.4: 2.4.
