Introduction

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life, characterized by a decline in hormone levels, particularly estrogen. This decline has a significant impact on various body systems, including a decrease in sexuality in mothers. The phenomenon of decreased sexuality in menopause mothers is not only related to physical and psychological changes but is also influenced by a lack of information and knowledge about changes that occur, as well as negative views of the public about sexuality in old age.

The Importance of Understanding Menopause

Menopause is a significant life event that affects not only the individual but also their partner and family. It is essential to understand the changes that occur during menopause to maintain the quality of life. A good understanding of menopause can help individuals and their partners navigate this phase with confidence and reduce anxiety and social stigma related to sexuality in old age.

Research Purposes

This study aims to analyze several factors that influence sexual activity in menopause mothers in Muara Dua District, Lhokseumawe. Some of the factors studied include knowledge, physical activity, anxiety, and values adopted. This study uses an observational method with a cross-sectional design to examine the relationship between these factors and sexual activity in menopause mothers.

Research Methodology

The population in this study consisted of all menopause mothers who still have a life partner in Muara Dua District. Of these, 82 menopause mothers were chosen as samples using proportional random sampling techniques. The data obtained were analyzed using univariate analysis to get a picture of the frequency distribution of the variables studied, then continued with bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test to see the relationship between independent and dependent variables. In addition, multivariate analysis was carried out using the double logistics regression test to determine the independent variables that most influence the dependent variable.

Research Results

The results showed that of 82 respondents, around 56.1% of them were sexually inactive. The Chi-Square statistical test shows that the physical activity variable (p <0.001), anxiety (p <0.001), and value (p = 0.019) have a significant influence on sexual activity. Furthermore, the double logistics regression test shows that severe physical activity has a dominant effect on sexual activity, with value (Exp B = 7.844). This means that menopause mothers who carry out severe physical activity have the possibility of eight times greater not to have sexual activity.

Factors Influencing Sexual Activity in Menopause Mothers

The study found that physical activity, anxiety, and values adopted have a significant influence on sexual activity in menopause mothers. Severe physical activity was found to have a dominant effect on sexual activity, with a possibility of eight times greater not to have sexual activity. This suggests that menopause mothers who engage in severe physical activity may experience a decline in sexual activity.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that menopause mothers maintain their health and fitness, as well as reducing the level of excessive physical activity. Cooperation with family, especially husbands, is very important in creating an environment that supports information about sexuality during menopause. In addition, it is essential for mothers and husbands to have a positive view of sexual activity during menopause, so that the quality of their sexual life can be improved.

Implications for Practice

The study's findings have implications for practice, particularly in the area of healthcare and education. Healthcare providers should provide menopause mothers with accurate information about changes that occur during menopause and offer support and guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Educational programs should also be developed to promote a positive view of sexuality in old age and provide menopause mothers with the skills and knowledge needed to maintain a healthy and fulfilling sex life.

Closing

Menopause is a natural phase in women's life, and a good understanding of changes that occur is very important to maintain the quality of life. Social support and open communication with a partner can help overcome anxiety and social stigma related to sexuality in old age, so that menopausal mothers can undergo this phase better. By understanding the factors that influence sexual activity in menopause mothers, healthcare providers and educators can develop effective interventions to promote a healthy and fulfilling sex life for menopause mothers.
