Evaluation Of The Quality Of Library Services Using The Libqual+TM Method In The Department Of Archives And Pematangsiantar City Library
Introduction
The quality of library services is a crucial aspect of any library's success. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on evaluating the quality of library services to ensure that they meet the needs and expectations of users. One method that has been widely used to evaluate the quality of library services is the Libqual+TM method. This method is a comprehensive tool that assesses the quality of library services from the user's perspective. In this study, we aim to evaluate the quality of library services in the Department of Archives and Pematangsiantar City Library using the Libqual+TM method.
Methodology
This study employed a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach. The data collection techniques used in this study included literature studies and questionnaire surveys. The sample used in this study consisted of 1,742 library visitors during 2018. The number of samples was limited to 95 people using the Slovin formula, and sampling was carried out through accidental sampling techniques.
Officer Performance in Services
The performance of officers in service is a critical aspect of library services. In this study, we assessed the performance of officers in service using the Libqual+TM method. The results showed that users provided a fairly good assessment of the performance of officers in service. The value of Adequancy Gap (AG) was 0.23, which indicates that the services provided by the library officer have met the minimum expectations of the library. However, the negative Superiority Gap (SG) value of -1.37 shows that the services expected by users have not been fully met.
The Importance of Officer Performance in Services
The performance of officers in service is crucial in ensuring that library users receive high-quality services. Officers who are knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive to user needs can make a significant difference in the user experience. In this study, we found that the performance of officers in service was a critical aspect of library services. However, there is still room for improvement in this area.
Information Quality and Information Access
Information quality and information access are critical aspects of library services. In this study, we assessed the quality of information and information access using the Libqual+TM method. The results showed that the positive Adequancy Gap (AG) value of 0.16 indicates that the library feels quite satisfied with the quality of the information provided. However, the negative Superiority Gap (SG) value of -1.54 indicates that the ideal expectations of librarians have not been fully realized.
The Importance of Information Quality and Information Access
Information quality and information access are critical aspects of library services. Librarians who provide high-quality information and ensure that users have access to the information they need can make a significant difference in the user experience. In this study, we found that information quality and information access were critical aspects of library services. However, there is still room for improvement in this area.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure is a critical aspect of library services. In this study, we assessed the infrastructure of the library using the Libqual+TM method. The results showed that the positive Adequancy Gap (AG) value of 0.55 indicates that users feel that the infrastructure is sufficient. However, the negative Superiority Gap (SG) value of -0.38 shows that this aspect also does not meet the ideal expectations of enthusiasts.
The Importance of Infrastructure
Infrastructure is a critical aspect of library services. A well-designed and well-maintained library building can make a significant difference in the user experience. In this study, we found that infrastructure was a critical aspect of library services. However, there is still room for improvement in this area.
Conclusion
Overall, the services received by the library at the Pematangsiantar City Archives and Library Office have fulfilled the acceptable minimum expectations, but have not met the desired ideal expectations. This indicates the need for further improvement in various aspects of library services, especially in improving the performance of officers, improving the quality of information, and improving infrastructure to create more satisfying experiences for users.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of this study, we recommend that library managers take the following steps to improve the quality of library services:
- Improve the performance of officers: Library managers should provide training and development opportunities for officers to improve their knowledge and skills.
- Improve the quality of information: Library managers should ensure that librarians are knowledgeable about the resources and services they provide and that they are able to provide high-quality information to users.
- Improve infrastructure: Library managers should ensure that the library building is well-designed and well-maintained to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for users.
Limitations of the Study
This study has several limitations. The sample size was limited to 95 people, which may not be representative of the larger population of library users. Additionally, the study was conducted in a single library, which may not be generalizable to other libraries.
Future Research Directions
Future research should focus on evaluating the quality of library services in other libraries and exploring the impact of library services on user satisfaction and library usage. Additionally, research should focus on identifying the factors that influence the quality of library services and developing strategies to improve the quality of library services.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study evaluated the quality of library services in the Department of Archives and Pematangsiantar City Library using the Libqual+TM method. The results showed that the services received by the library have fulfilled the acceptable minimum expectations, but have not met the desired ideal expectations. This indicates the need for further improvement in various aspects of library services, especially in improving the performance of officers, improving the quality of information, and improving infrastructure to create more satisfying experiences for users.
