Introduction
High infant mortality rates are a serious problem in various regions, including in the city of Padangsidimpuan. The Importance of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) and Exclusive Breastfeeding
Early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) and exclusive breastfeeding are crucial for the health and well-being of infants. IMD refers to the practice of starting breastfeeding within the first hour of birth, while exclusive breastfeeding means that the infant receives only breast milk without any additional foods or liquids. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, as it provides optimal nutrition and helps to prevent infections and diseases.
The Role of Health Promotion Media in Changing Behavior
Health promotion media, such as leaflets, play a crucial role in changing behavior and promoting healthy practices among pregnant women. Leaflets are an effective medium for disseminating information and promoting behavior change, as they are easy to understand, easy to carry, and can be accessed at any time. In addition, leaflets can be personalized with information relevant to the needs of the local community.
Methodology
This study used an experimental quasi design by involving 80 trimester 3 pregnant women divided into two groups randomly: the treatment group (given a leaflet) and the control group (not given a leaflet). Both of these groups have the same level of education. Health workers need to understand the contents of the leaflet and how to convey the information to pregnant women effectively.
