Effectiveness Of Counseling And Level Of Health Knowledge (Correlational Study The Effect Of Effectiveness Of Doctor Counseling On The Level Of Health Knowledge In The Family Of Patients In H. Adam Malik Medan Hospital)
Effectiveness of Counseling and Level of Family Health Knowledge Patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan
Introduction
The effectiveness of counseling by doctors on the level of health knowledge among the families of patients is a crucial aspect of healthcare. In this study, we aim to explore the extent of the effect of doctor's counseling on the level of health knowledge among the families of patients treated at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the effectiveness of counseling and the level of health knowledge, and to identify the factors that influence this relationship.
Methodology
This study employed a correlational method, which allows researchers to understand the relationship between two variables: the effectiveness of counseling and the level of health knowledge. The population in this study consisted of 355 people, and samples were taken using the Yamane Taro Formula with 10% precision produced 78 people. For sampling, accidental sampling and purposive sampling techniques were used, which are designed to provide more representative results to the population under study.
The data collection process was carried out with two approaches: Field research using questionnaires, and library research to explore relevant literature and reading sources. Data analysis included a single table analysis, cross table analysis, and hypothesis test. The hypothesis test results showed the correlation coefficient of 0.41 measured by the Rank-Order (Spearman) correlation formula. This result is on a scale of 0.40-0.70 which shows a significant relationship between the effectiveness of doctor's counseling and the level of patient health knowledge.
Results
The results of the analysis showed that the correlation coefficient of 0.41 indicates a significant relationship between the effectiveness of counseling and health knowledge. The value of t arithmetic (3.91) is greater than T table (1,994), which confirms that there is a positive correlation between the effectiveness of counseling and health knowledge. However, it is essential to note that despite the effect of the effectiveness of doctor's extension on the level of health knowledge is 16.81%, there are still 83.19% that are influenced by other factors outside of this study.
Discussion
The results of this study indicate that counseling by doctors has a significant impact on the level of patient health knowledge. This reflects the importance of effective communication in health practices. Good communication not only increases knowledge, but can also improve health behavior in the patient's family. When the doctor is able to explain the health condition, treatment procedures, and the importance of maintaining effective health, the family will better understand their role in maintaining the health of patients.
However, it must be recognized that other factors that are not measurable in this study also contribute to the level of health knowledge. For example, family education background, previous health experience, and access to health information from other sources. Therefore, there is a need to develop a more comprehensive counseling approach that includes various communication methods and involves active participation from the family.
Conclusion
This study contributes to the development of more effective and comprehensive health education strategies at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan and other health institutions. The results of this study indicate that counseling by doctors has a significant impact on the level of patient health knowledge. Therefore, it is essential to develop a more comprehensive counseling approach that includes various communication methods and involves active participation from the family.
Recommendations
To increase the effectiveness of counseling, it is recommended that hospitals and health workers conduct further training in health communication. In addition, health service providers can use information technology, such as health applications, to provide more accurate and easily accessible information by the patient's family.
Limitations
This study has some limitations. The sample size was relatively small, and the study only focused on the families of patients treated at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Therefore, the results of this study may not be generalizable to other populations.
Future Research Directions
Future research should aim to investigate the factors that influence the effectiveness of counseling and the level of health knowledge. Additionally, studies should explore the use of information technology in health education and the development of more comprehensive counseling approaches.
