Effect of the Level of Women's Participation in Micro Economic Business on the Family Socio -Economic Level in Harjosari II Village, Medan Amplas District, Medan City

Introduction

The level of women's participation in the microeconomic business has a significant impact on the socio-economic conditions of the family. In Harjosari II Village, Medan Amplas District, Medan City, this research focuses on the relationship between women's participation in the micro sector and family welfare. Many women are involved in the microeconomic sector because of the economic problems faced by their families. Through this participation, it is expected to bring positive changes in the socio-economic conditions of the family.

Background of the Study

The role of women in the economy has become increasingly important in recent years. Women's participation in the workforce has been shown to have a positive impact on family welfare, particularly in developing countries. In Indonesia, women's participation in the microeconomic sector is significant, with many women involved in home industries and small trade. However, the level of women's participation in the microeconomic business and its impact on family socio-economic conditions is not well understood.

Methodology

This study aims to find out how much influence the participation of women in micro businesses on the family's socio-economic conditions. The intended micro business includes home industry and small trade. The research method used is descriptive, which provides a clear picture of the object under study. This study involved 30 women who were active in micro businesses in Harjosari II Village. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to respondents.

Data Analysis

The results showed that there was a positive relationship, although low, between women's participation in the microeconomic business and the socio-economic conditions of the family. By using a moment product correlation analysis, a correlation coefficient is obtained of 0.204, which is greater than the value of R table at a significance level of 5% which is 0.202. This indicates that the more active women in micro businesses, the better the socio-economic conditions of their families.

Discussion

This analysis shows that women's education and their participation in family planning programs affect family welfare. In other words, better education and involvement in social programs can improve the ability of women to contribute to micro businesses, which in turn have a positive impact on family welfare. The importance of women's involvement in micro businesses cannot be underestimated. In addition to helping the family economy, this participation can also increase women's confidence and strengthen their position in society.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is important for the government and the community to provide support to women in the micro business sector. Support can be in the form of training, access to capital, and improvement of business networks. Thus, women's participation in the microeconomic business is not only beneficial for their families, but also for the progress of society as a whole.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  • The government should provide support to women in the micro business sector through training, access to capital, and improvement of business networks.
  • The community should also provide support to women in the micro business sector by providing access to markets and improving their business networks.
  • Women's education and participation in family planning programs should be prioritized to improve their ability to contribute to micro businesses.
  • The government and the community should work together to create a supportive environment for women's participation in the micro business sector.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size is small, with only 30 women involved in the study. Secondly, the study only focuses on women's participation in the microeconomic business and its impact on family socio-economic conditions, and does not consider other factors that may affect family welfare. Finally, the study only provides a descriptive analysis of the data and does not provide a causal analysis of the relationship between women's participation in the microeconomic business and family socio-economic conditions.

Future Research Directions

Future research should aim to build on the findings of this study by exploring other factors that may affect family welfare, such as men's participation in the microeconomic business and the impact of women's participation in the microeconomic business on children's education and health. Additionally, future research should aim to provide a causal analysis of the relationship between women's participation in the microeconomic business and family socio-economic conditions.
