Effect of Student Competencies and Facilities Support on Service User Satisfaction at Medan MICE Polytechnic Study Program Student Event

Introduction

Meetings, Incentives, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) is a tourism activity that combines recreation and business, usually involves a group of people. MICE activities have a significant impact on the macroeconomic through the organizers of the event involved, with a wide range including the location, price, work, and business opportunities that have great potential to be developed. Service users provided by MICE Study Program students in the implementation of this event consist of sponsors, exhibitors, and associations that provide support in each MICE activity. The success of the exhibition event is influenced by several factors, including the competencies owned by the event organizer and the support of facilities and infrastructure in the preparation of the exhibition activities.

Background of the Study

MICE activities have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many countries investing heavily in developing their MICE infrastructure. In Indonesia, the MICE industry is growing rapidly, with many universities and institutions offering MICE study programs. The MICE Study Program at Medan State Polytechnic is one such program that aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to organize successful MICE events. However, the success of the MICE event is not only dependent on the skills and knowledge of the students, but also on the support of facilities and infrastructure.

Research Questions

This study aims to determine the effect of student competencies and the support of facilities on the satisfaction of exhibitors in the event organized by MICE Study Program students at Medan State Polytechnic. The research questions that guided this study are:

  • What is the effect of student competencies on service user satisfaction in the MICE event?
  • What is the effect of facility support on service user satisfaction in the MICE event?
  • Is there a significant influence between student competencies and facility support on service user satisfaction in the MICE event?

Methodology

The population studied was 32 exhibitors who had participated at least twice in the exhibition event held by MICE Study Program students. Primary data was obtained through questionnaire distribution, while secondary data was collected through literature research. The data collected was then analyzed using multiple linear regression tests.

Analysis of the Effect of Student Competency

Student competence is one of the keys to success in organizing MICE events. This includes the managerial, communication, and technical capabilities needed to plan and carry out events effectively. Students who have good competence will be able to interact with the participants and other stakeholders, and ensure that every aspect of the event goes according to plan. In this context, service user satisfaction is very dependent on how students are able to answer the needs and expectations of the exhibitors. If students are able to show adequate professionalism and knowledge abilities, this will contribute greatly to participant satisfaction.

The Importance of Facility Support

Adequate facilities support also plays an important role in the success of the MICE event. Facilities such as exhibition rooms, technology equipment, and logistics must be available and function well to support the smooth running of the event. If the support of facilities is inadequate, it can interfere with the participants' experience and reduce their level of satisfaction. In addition, good facilities can attract more participants and sponsors to participate in upcoming events, thereby increasing the reputation of the MICE study program at the Medan State Polytechnic.

Conclusion

Overall, this research shows that student competencies and facilities support have a significant influence on service user satisfaction in an exhibition organized by MICE Study Program students. Therefore, increasing student competencies through appropriate training and improving the quality of facilities and infrastructure is needed to increase the satisfaction of exhibitors in the future. Thus, the results of this study can be a reference for the manager of the MICE study program in planning and carrying out activities in the future in order to achieve optimal results.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations that should be noted. Firstly, the study only focused on the MICE Study Program at Medan State Polytechnic, and the findings may not be generalizable to other MICE study programs. Secondly, the study only collected data from exhibitors who had participated in the MICE event, and the views of other stakeholders such as sponsors and associations may not be represented. Finally, the study only analyzed the effect of student competencies and facility support on service user satisfaction, and other factors such as marketing and promotion may also play a role in the success of the MICE event.

Future Research Directions

This study provides several avenues for future research. Firstly, future studies could investigate the effect of other factors such as marketing and promotion on service user satisfaction in the MICE event. Secondly, future studies could explore the role of industry stakeholders in supporting the MICE study program and providing students with practical experience and exposure to the MICE industry. Finally, future studies could investigate the impact of the MICE event on the local economy and community.
