Introduction

In today's competitive business landscape, employee motivation and work productivity are crucial factors that determine the success of an organization. PT. State Gas Company (Persero), Tbk SBU Distribution Region III of North Sumatra, a leading energy company in Indonesia, is no exception. The company's ability to motivate its employees and increase their work productivity is essential to achieving its organizational goals and increasing profits. This study aims to investigate the effect of motivation on employee work productivity at PT. State Gas Company (Persero), Tbk SBU Distribution Region III of North Sumatra.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach and associative research methods to analyze the data obtained from 53 respondents, which is a sample of a total of 113 employees of PT. State Gas Company (Persero), Tbk SBU Distribution Region III of North Sumatra. The respondents were chosen using the Slovin technique, which is a random sampling method used to select a representative sample from a larger population. The data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression analysis, statistical t-test, product moment correlation coefficient, and determinant coefficient through the SPSS 17.0 program.

Results

The results of this study showed that employee motivation at PT. State Gas Company (Persero), Tbk SBU Distribution Region III of North Sumatra is in the medium category, with the highest percentage of 47.2%. Similarly, work productivity is also in the medium category, with a percentage of 32.1%. Further analysis showed a significant correlation between motivation and work productivity. The product moment correlation coefficient (R) of 0.830 shows a strong positive relationship between the two variables. This means that the higher the motivation of employees, the higher the work productivity.

Discussion

The coefficient of determination (R2) of 68.89% shows that 68.89% variations in employee work productivity at PT. State Gas Company (Persero), Tbk SBU Distribution Region III of North Sumatra is influenced by motivation. The rest, 31.11%, are influenced by other factors that are not examined in this study. This study confirms the importance of motivation in increasing employee work productivity. By understanding the factors that encourage motivation, companies can implement effective strategies to increase employee enthusiasm and performance.
