To achieve its production targets, the company requires its employees to work optimally, and one of the key factors that can influence employee performance is leadership and motivation. This study aims to investigate the effect of leadership and motivation on employee performance in the Unit of Elints Maint 1, Maintenance Department of PT Semen Padang, West Sumatra.

The Importance of Leadership and Motivation

Leadership and motivation are two critical factors that can significantly impact employee performance. Effective leadership can create a positive work environment, motivate employees, and provide clear direction, enabling them to work optimally. Research Methods

This study uses associative methods with multiple linear regression analysis techniques to measure the effect of leadership variables and motivation on employee performance. The population of this study was all employees of the Unit of Elints Maint 1, Maintenance Department of PT Semen Padang, totaling 61 people. The sampling technique uses a saturated sample formula, so that the entire population becomes a research sample.

Data collected through the questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability to ensure data quality. After that, data were analyzed using a regression and correlation test with the help of SPSS software.

Research Results

The results of data analysis show that:

  1. Leadership has a positive and significant influence on employee performance. The R2 coefficient value of 0.266 shows that 26.6% of employee performance variations are explained by the leadership variable. This indicates that the better the leadership applied, the higher the employee performance.
  2. Motivation also has a positive and significant influence on employee performance. The R2 coefficient value of 0.455 shows that 45.5% of employee performance variations are explained by the motivational variable. This indicates that the higher the motivation of employees, the better the performance they achieve.

The results of this study are in line with various theories about leadership and motivation, which state that both have an important role in improving employee performance. Effective leadership can create a positive work environment, motivate employees, and provide clear direction, so that employees can work optimally. High employee motivation can encourage them to work more actively, creatively, and innovatively.
