Effect Of Giving Various Doses Of Compost Coffee Skin And NPK Fertilizer On Growth And Sorghum Production (Sorghum Bicolor L.)
Introduction
The use of organic and chemical fertilizers has become a crucial aspect of modern agriculture, with the aim of increasing crop yields and improving soil fertility. Among the various types of fertilizers available, compost coffee skin and NPK fertilizer have gained significant attention due to their potential benefits for plant growth and productivity. This study aims to investigate the effect of various doses of compost coffee skin and NPK fertilizer on growth and sorghum production, with a focus on understanding the interaction between these two fertilizers.
Methodology
The study was conducted on Jalan Harmonika Baru, Padang Bulan Selayang II, Medan Selayang District, Medan, with a height of about 25 meters above sea level. The study took place from March to June 2023, with a total of 16 plots used for the experiment. The research design used was a factorial random block design with two factors. The first factor was the dose of use of coffee skin compost with four levels, namely P0: Control, P1: 3.5 kg/plot, P2: 7 kg/plot, and P3: 10.5 kg/plot. The second factor was the NPK Pearl fertilizer dose 16-16-16 with two levels, namely N0: Control and N1: 20 g/under the planting.
Results
The results of the study showed that the application of coffee skin compost had a significant effect on plant height parameters at the ages of 5 to 6 weeks after planting (WAP), the number of leaves at the age of 7 to 9 WAP, flowering age, and the wet weight of sorghum straw. Likewise, the use of pearl NPK fertilizer 16-16-16 has a significant impact on the height of the plant at the age of 5 to 9 WAP, the number of leaves at the age of 5 to 9 WAP, the age of flowering, and the wet weight of the sorghum straw. However, the interaction between coffee skin compost and NPK pearl fertilizer 16-16-16 does not show a significant effect on all observed parameters.
Discussion
The results of this study suggest that the application of coffee skin compost and NPK fertilizer 16-16-16 can have a significant impact on sorghum growth and productivity. Coffee skin compost contains various nutrients that are beneficial for plants, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These nutrients play a crucial role in plant growth and development, and their availability can be limited in soil. The use of coffee skin compost as an alternative organic fertilizer can help to improve soil fertility and increase crop yields.
NPK Pearl fertilizer 16-16-16 also has an important role in increasing sorghum growth. This fertilizer contains a balanced mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are essential for plant growth and development. Nitrogen supports vegetative growth, phosphorus helps the development of roots and flowering, while potassium plays a role in plant resilience to disease and improves the quality of yields.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the application of coffee skin compost and NPK fertilizer 16-16-16 can have a significant impact on sorghum growth and productivity. The use of these fertilizers can help to improve soil fertility, increase crop yields, and reduce the dependence on chemical fertilizers. However, the interaction between coffee skin compost and NPK fertilizer 16-16-16 does not show a significant effect on all observed parameters. Therefore, further research is needed to explore the interactions between various types of fertilizers and their impact on agricultural products.
Recommendations
Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that farmers consider the use of NPK coffee skin and fertilizer compost simultaneously to improve sorghum harvest yields. Additionally, further research is needed to explore the interactions between various types of fertilizers and their impact on agricultural products. This can help to develop more effective and sustainable agricultural practices that can improve crop yields and reduce the environmental impact of farming.
Future Research Directions
Future research should focus on exploring the interactions between various types of fertilizers and their impact on agricultural products. This can include studying the effects of different types of fertilizers on crop yields, soil fertility, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, research should focus on developing more effective and sustainable agricultural practices that can improve crop yields and reduce the environmental impact of farming.
Limitations of the Study
This study has several limitations that should be considered when interpreting the results. Firstly, the study was conducted in a specific location and may not be representative of other areas. Secondly, the study only used two types of fertilizers and may not be representative of other types of fertilizers. Finally, the study only measured a limited number of parameters and may not be representative of all the factors that affect sorghum growth and productivity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study has provided valuable insights into the effects of coffee skin compost and NPK fertilizer 16-16-16 on sorghum growth and productivity. The results suggest that the application of these fertilizers can have a significant impact on sorghum growth and productivity. However, further research is needed to explore the interactions between various types of fertilizers and their impact on agricultural products. This can help to develop more effective and sustainable agricultural practices that can improve crop yields and reduce the environmental impact of farming.
