Economic Competitiveness Analysis Of Tebing Tinggi City
Introduction
Tebing Tinggi City, a rapidly developing city, faces numerous challenges and opportunities in enhancing its economic competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the key elements that influence and determine the economic competitiveness of Tebing Tinggi City in 2014. The research employed the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, utilizing a purposive sampling approach. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with 30 respondents, comprising students, teachers, general public, bureaucracy, non-sacrifice, and entrepreneurs.
Methodology
The study employed the AHP method to analyze the economic competitiveness of Tebing Tinggi City. AHP is a decision-making tool that helps in evaluating complex problems by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable components. The method involves creating a hierarchy of criteria, sub-criteria, and alternatives, and then assigning weights to each level. In this study, the hierarchy consisted of four main factors: physical infrastructure, labor and productivity, institution, and regional economy, as well as socio-political stability.
Results
The results of this study indicate that the most influential element in determining economic competitiveness in Tebing Tinggi City is physical infrastructure, with a weight of 0.272. This suggests that the development of good infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and public facilities, is crucial in increasing accessibility and connectivity, which in turn supports economic activities. Adequate infrastructure also attracts investment and facilitates the distribution of goods and services.
The second factor that affects competitiveness is labor and productivity, with a weight of 0.239. A skilled and productive workforce is essential for carrying out business activities efficiently. Therefore, it is essential for the government and related parties to improve the quality of vocational education and training to produce workers who are ready to use.
The third factor is the institution, with a weight of 0.205. The existence of strong and transparent institutions can create a conducive business climate. Openness in bureaucracy and ease of licensing is a special attraction for investors. Thus, it is essential to improve management and administrative systems at the regional level.
The fourth factor is the regional economy, which weighs 0.169. Regional economic resilience is strongly influenced by cooperation between regions and local economy sustainability. Developing local potential through strengthening the MSME sector can contribute to more equitable economic growth.
Finally, the socio-political factor has a weight of 0.116. Social and political stability in an area provides a sense of security for economic actors. Political uncertainty can hamper investment and economic growth, so it is essential to maintain a harmonious relationship between the government and the community.

The results of this study provide an overview of the factors that influence the economic competitiveness of Tebing Tinggi City.
