The performance of human resources, particularly Maternal and Child Health (MCH) officers, plays a significant role in determining the quality of these services. Therefore, it is essential to identify the determinants of the performance of MCH officers to improve the quality of maternal and child health services.

Research Purpose

This study aims to investigate the influence of individual characteristics, such as knowledge, age, working period, and ability of MCH officers, as well as psychological factors, such as attitudes and motivations, on the quality of their performance in providing MCH program services at the Gunung Meriah Health Center, Gunung Meriah District, Regency, Regency Aceh Singkil in 2016. The study seeks to provide insights into the factors that affect the performance of MCH officers and to identify strategies to improve their performance.

Research Methodology

This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 29 MCH officers, and the sampling technique used was the total population, ensuring that all officers in the MCH were involved. Data was collected through interviews using questionnaires that had been prepared and then analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple linear regression tests with a 95% confidence level.

The results of this study showed that individual characteristics variables, such as working period (p = 0.005 < 0.05) and knowledge (p = 0.00 < 0.05), and psychological variables, namely motivation (p = 0.00 < 0.05), have a significant influence on the performance of MCH officers. Meanwhile, the variables of other individual characteristics, such as age (p = 0.118 > 0.05) and ability (p = 0.161 > 0.05), as well as attitude variables, do not show a significant effect on performance.

Research Implications

Based on these findings, it is advisable to the Aceh Singkil District Health Office to consider the placement of MCH officers proportionally based on working periods. This aims to achieve equity between junior and senior officers in providing services. In addition, it is also important to improve the ability of MCH officers by providing opportunities to attend training and education to a higher level. The implementation of supervision routinely is also highly recommended to improve the quality of service.

Conclusion

This study provides a clear picture of the determinants of the performance of MCH officers at the Gunung Meriah Health Center. With a focus on improving quality through individual development and psychological support, it is expected that maternal and child mortality rates can be reduced and maternal and child health services in this region can be significantly improved. This increase certainly requires cooperation between all related parties, especially the Health Office and Health Workers themselves.
