Introduction
Soybean is one of the most important crops in Indonesia, providing a significant source of vegetable protein for the country's population. The development of high-yielding and disease-resistant soybean varieties is crucial for improving food security and the livelihoods of farmers. In this study, we aimed to determine the F1 derivative character of Anjasmoro soybean varieties crossed with Grobogan varieties in North Sumatra. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable information for farmers and researchers to develop better soybean varieties, which will contribute to the increase in soybean production and improve the welfare of farmers and the community.
Research Methodology
The research activities were carried out in artificial greenhouses and experimental land, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, at an altitude of about 32 meters above sea level, from September to January 2022. The method used was a random design group (rack) with one factor, namely the soybean variety factor which includes Anjasmoro varieties, Grobogan varieties, and F1 the results of the cross between Anjasmoro and Grobogan.
Parameters Observed
Several observed parameters include:
- Plant Height: The height of the plant is an important indicator of growth and productivity.
- Number of Leaves: The number of leaves is also an important indicator of growth and photosynthesis capacity.
- Number of Main Branches: The number of main branches is an important indicator of plant structure and productivity.
- Flowering Age: The age of flowering is an important indicator of plant maturity and productivity.
- Harvest Age: The age of harvest is an important indicator of plant maturity and productivity.
- Number of Pods per Plant: The number of pods per plant is an important indicator of plant productivity.
- Number of Pods Filled per Plant: The number of pods filled per plant is an important indicator of plant productivity.
- Number of Seeds per Plant: The number of seeds per plant is an important indicator of plant productivity.
- Weight of Seeds per Plant: The weight of seeds per plant is an important indicator of plant productivity.
- Weight of 100 Seeds: The weight of 100 seeds is an important indicator of seed quality and productivity.
Results and Discussion
The results showed that the three varieties had significant differences in the morphological character of each other. The differences in characteristics between soybean varieties Anjasmoro, Grobogan, and F1 results of crossing are certainly inseparable from the genetic factors and the environment in which they grow. Anjasmoro varieties are famous for their high productivity and durability to pests and diseases, while Grobogan varieties have good adaptability in various soil and climate conditions. The cross between the two varieties is expected to produce superior F1 offspring, both in terms of growth and productivity.
In observations, parameters such as plant height and the number of leaves are the main indicators in growth assessment. Plants that are higher and have more leaves tend to have better photosynthesis capacity, so that it has the potential to produce more pods and seeds. In addition, flowering age and harvest age are also important to determine the efficiency of planting time and optimal results.
Conclusion
By monitoring the morphological characteristics of these three varieties, researchers can better understand the mechanism of inheritance that occurs. This is important for the development of better soybean varieties, especially in the context of sustainable agriculture in Indonesia. The selection of superior varieties in accordance with local conditions will contribute to the increase in soybean production which results in food security.
Furthermore, the results of this study are expected to be a reference for farmers and researchers to make further efforts in the development of soybean varieties, which in turn will improve the welfare of farmers and the community as a whole. Given the important role of soybeans in meeting the needs of vegetable protein, this kind of research is very relevant for the future of agriculture in Indonesia.
